Recreational vehicles are extremely popular among adventures who love to travel around the country. They serve as the best traveling options for spending a weekend in the woods or on the road. Many camping professionals recommend pop-up campers; for example, according to CamperAdvise.com, they are ideal for attaching to an RV or SUV to take along with you on long trips.

What are pop-up trailers?

Pop up trailers, also called fold-out or tent trailers, can be collapsed to become much smaller and portable due to their partial canvas construction.

Advantages of pop-up campers

Budget-friendly

A pop-up camper is usually very affordable. A travel trailer with features can be thousands of dollars more expensive. With most people choosing to finance their trailers, the prices do not overload your pockets. Also, it does not need insurance. Due to the small size and ease of maintenance and towing, the costs are relatively low.

Equipped with various features

Most small campers feature various modern amenities and technology needed for comfortable living. They do not make you feel out of home even for a single moment. They feature a mess area, large mattresses, and functioning bathrooms, similar to fifth wheels and travel trailers. These campers are lightweight and made with durable materials to last you for several years.

A guide to buying a pop-up camper

Size of the camper

Firstly, you need to decide how many people will stay in your trailer. The cost varies according to its size, so make sure you make the right choice. Also, decide how much storage space you require. Many campers have storage under the dining table benches and on the exterior. The kitchen area typically has a couple of cabinets worth of storage. As you can conclude, they have limited storage, so if you have more goods to store, you need to buy a larger trailer, install a storage rack on the back, or purchase a rooftop storage bin that you can place on top of your vehicle.

Weight of the camper

You can usually tow any camper if you have an SUV. Those who don’t plan on getting an SUV or truck will need to check their owner manual to find out their vehicle’s towing capacity.

The average pop-up trailer weighs between 1,000 lbs and 3,000 lbs with no gear packed inside. Adding your kitchen supplies, bikes, and food can add another 200-500 pounds of gear. Add 500 pounds to the initial weight of the trailer to be on the safe side. Be careful not to exceed your vehicle’s towing capability. This can result in a dangerous situation when traveling with it.

Shower

Having a shower in your pop-up camper can be a great addition. The feeling of being clean just before falling asleep just makes everyone feel better. However, the biggest problem with a camper is that there is not enough space for a shower. Many of them have an exterior shower that might not be very private but is still a good option for cleaning off kids before entering. Alternatively, you can bring a portable camp shower that can be stored in your RV and assembled when you arrive at the campsite.

Conclusion

Pop up campers are a great means of accommodation that you can set in any region of the country, whether at the shore, mountains, or road. A modern recreational camping vehicle is smaller, lighter, and more affordable than a traditional pull-along trailer. In addition, the best models are weatherproof, so rainstorms, sandstorms, and other extreme conditions won’t do any severe damage to the interior. Before buying a camper, you can also consider renting one. In this way, you will learn about its essential features and know whether it will suit your needs or not.
