With beautiful islands, fascinating histories and ideal summer climates, Greece and Croatia both offer great options for a summer yacht charter escape. Here’s a look at what makes each country so special for those who can’t choose between these two eastern Mediterranean cruising spots.

Torn between Greece or Croatia this summer? We can help…

Choosing between the offerings of Greece and Croatia can be tough. The following criteria will help you decide which one is the right charter destination for you.

Looking for romance?

What can be more romantic than a stunning sunset? Head to the volcanic Greek island of Santorini for some of the best sunsets you’ll ever see, as well as luxury shopping and fine dining.

Meanwhile, Croatia’s mainland resort of Brela is a hidden gem of pebble beaches and pine-covered coves, lined by a shady promenade from where you can enjoy the most enchanting of evenings, watching the light gradually leave the sky .

Our favorite: Greece

Mouthwatering cuisine

Food plays such an important part in any summer holiday, and what better than a plate of divine seafood during your yacht charter? Grilled octopus, crispy fried squid and delicious lobster combined with pasta are fantastic Greek dishes, while a Croatian speciality is Crni Rižot, or black risotto, made with squid, garlic, wine and squid ink.

Our favorite: Greece

Party hotspots

The Greek island of Mykonos is a well-known clubbing hotspot, famed for its party beaches of Paradise and Paraga. Meanwhile, for the most elegant bars and buzzing nightclubs in Croatia, head to Hvar city on Hvar island.

Our favorite: Croatia

Most extensive wildlife

Renowned for its natural beauty, the Greek Ionian island of Corfu boasts rolling green hills in the south and rugged limestone rock formations in the north, with stunning beaches and hidden coves.

Croatia’s Lastovo Island is a designated nature park, with 200km of well-marked trails weaving through its forests and tiny villages.

Our favorite: Greece

Untouched islands

Taking a yacht charter in the Mediterranean is the best way to explore some of the lesser visited islands, and find your own piece of paradise before everyone else. The Greek Cyclades islands of Folegandros and Andros are blissfully unspoiled, while on Croatia’s remote Vis Island you’ll find delightful villages and picture-perfect beaches.

Our favorite: Croatia

The best beaches

Paleokastritsa is undoubtedly Corfu’s most famous beach, with six bays sheltering beaches of sand and pebbles. Also in Greece, Zante’s Navagio beach, only accessible by boat, is one of the most photographed in Europe, with its turquoise waters and white sands backed by dramatic towering cliffs.

Croatia’s Zlatni Rat beach on Brač island stands out for its striking shape, which changes with the currents, while on Dugi Otok island, the secluded Sakuran Beach is reminiscent of the Caribbean for its fine white sand and turquoise water.

Our favorite: Croatia

Most fascinating towns

On Greece’s Naxos island, the main town of Naxos Chora boasts Venetian mansions and churches, a thirteenth-century castle and the beautiful Kastro cathedral.

Dubbed the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik is known for its Venetian, Gothic and Baroque influences, while Split is famous for its imposing Diocletian Palace, as well as its Venetian Gothic architecture.

Our favorite: Croatia

Whether you choose Greece or Croatia for your Mediterranean yacht charter holiday this summer, you will leave with a lifetime of memories to look back on. If you’re looking for romance, cuisine and wildlife, head to Greece, whereas for nightlife, remote islands, beaches and fascinating towns, Croatia will delight. Where time allows, you can of course choose to split your time between the two. Bring on the summer!
