Setting the Stage for the Perfect Couples Trip

A couple’s trip can be the perfect way to reconnect with your special someone. Whether you’re still getting to know one another or have been an item for years, taking a trip with your partner can help you rekindle the flame and deepen your bond. Of course, not all couples trips are equally beneficial. While a well-planned, well-executed getaway can be a boon to your relationship, a trip that leaves a lot to be desired is likely to have the opposite effect. Couples looking to set the stage for the perfect travel excursion can benefit from the following travel tips.

Select a Mutually Agreeable Destination

When embarking on a trip with your sweetie, it’s important to realize that this trip is for both of you – not just one of you. That being the case, make a point of selecting a mutually agreeable travel destination. Choosing a destination that only one of you finds appealing is liable to lead to a trip filled with disagreements, hurt feelings and quiet resentment. So, before committing to a destination, sit down with your partner and explore your options. It may take you a while to come to a consensus, but if you put in enough effort, you should eventually find a destination that you’re both happy with.

If romance is major a factor in your decision-making, look for destinations that are highly conducive to togetherness. For fun, sun and ample time with your sweetie, consider booking a stay at a highly-rated Maldives resort.

Take Each Other’s Itinerary into Account

Even if you choose a mutually agreeable destination, there’s a good chance you’ll face some degree of disagreement over how your vacation time should be spent. Needless to say, one party’s itinerary dominating the entire trip is a recipe for disaster. To get around this, make a point of evenly splitting your time between things you want to do and things that appeal to your partner.

Additionally, don’t be afraid of spending a little bit of time apart throughout your vacation. When traveling, most couples spend more time around one another than they do in their daily lives. No matter how much you love someone, being around them 24/7 is liable to give way to irritability and disagreements. With this in mind, you should remain open to the idea of you and your sweetie engaging in solo activities during your trip. As the adage says, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

Leave Work at Home

Few things are less satisfying than working vacations. For starters, the very term “working vacation” may as well be an oxymoron. Vacation, by definition, represents a break from work, so continuing to work while on vacation essentially defeats the purpose. Unfortunately, we exist in a culture of overwork, and many people never truly clock out of their jobs. While this can be frustrating enough throughout one’s daily life, it can be downright devastating to a couple’s trip.

To nip this problem in the bud, make sure to leave work behind the second you step off the plane. If you spend your entire vacation checking your phone, contacting coworkers and typing away on your laptop, your partner is liable to become lonely and frustrated, paving the way for arguments. Furthermore, this approach to vacationing isn’t exactly good for your mental health. Part of maintaining a healthy mindset is giving yourself regular breaks from the pressures of daily life, and if you continue working in perpetuity, you’ll never truly have any downtime. So, before heading out, inform your bosses and coworkers that you’ll be unreachable for the duration of your trip – and encourage your partner to do the same.

There’s a lot to be said for couples travel. In addition to helping people reconnect and enjoy each other’s company, a good couples trip will enable you and your sweetie to experience a bevy of new sights and sounds together. However, this isn’t to say that every romantic travel excursion is a slam dunk. A trip with insufficient thought or planning may leave you and your partner exasperated and yearning to return home. Couples who want their next big jaunt to go off without a hitch should put the previously discussed pointers to good use.
