Cyclists rejoice! You don't have to just cycle where you live. Think bigger and try bicycling routes throughout the world for a more cultured and adventurous experience. Each country has its own unique landmarks and things to do in between cycling. Here are 5 of the best bicycle touring destinations throughout the globe. 

1. France

France's bike trails are known for their mountainous, hilly trails surrounded by beautiful seas and rivers. You will pass through Provence to see landmarks such as vineyards and villages. You can cycle up the Alpe d'Huez and see how you compare with Tour de France cycling professionals.

According to Alek Asaduryan from YesCycling.com, the budget for bicycling in France would be anywhere from $525 per person for the Tour de France route to $5999 per person for the Etape du Tour cycling vacation. 

2. Patagonia (Chile & Argentina)

The Chile Carretera Austral and Ruta 40 in Argentina are two of the most popular trails in Patagonia.

Overall, Patagonia has glacier-like mountains that challenges cyclists to brave the cold temperatures while bicycling through the terrain.

Explore about 35 towns throughout Chile's Carretera Austral trail. At the end of 2017, it became fully asphalted for bikers to properly ride through the famous Chilean trail.

Ruta 40 in Argentina is one of the longest routes in the world that is about 5,000 km long. Enjoy 20 national parks and mountainous landscapes through your cycling journey about Argentina.

You can challenge your cycling skills by traveling through Villa O'Higgins and El Chaltén.

3. Italy

Enjoy lovely coastal and riverside rides with mountainy terrain much like in Patagonia. You can try out six international Italy routes to get you started.

Try the Ciclopista del Sole, which is EuroVelo 7. It's one of Italy's well-known long-distance routes that span from Austria and into Rome. You will end up on the Lazio coast at the end of your route.

The Munchen-Venezia route is newer and will take you all through Munich and Venice. Many cycling routes have bike lanes if the routes are along roads throughout Italy, making for easy travel.

4. United States of America

You can brave cross country bike tours throughout America.

Popular cross country programs are located in the West Coast such as the route from Columbia River Gorge to Yellowstone. You'll receive a historical lesson by walking in the trails of Lewis and Clark's travels while cycling through scenic mountainside and waterfalls such as the Multnomah Falls.

The Portland to Portland cycling trip is $20,000 per person, 47 days long, and spans 3,800 miles. You will cross through 15 states with a variety of sights to be seen along the way during your rest days.

5. India

Challenge yourself to mountainous bike trails throughout India. Pass through Purulia, Bangalore, Ghatshila, Hyderabad, and Darjeeling which are known as the top 5 trails on Trail Forks. Purulia is the number one trail that 5-star rated.

There are three best trails that you can try out in Purulia including Yogini, the Marble Lake Trail, and the Pakhi Hill Trail. The Pakhi Hill Trail is more downhill than uphill travel. Like the Pakhi Trail, the Yogini Trail is also primarily downhill as well. The Marble Lake Trail is more of a higher speed trail with more expert skills required to complete the trail.
