Most people want to have a career that allows them to do something they enjoy. If the idea of having a job that allows you to travel sounds enticing, you should know that there are a variety of career options available. These jobs can be competitive, so it is important to do everything possible to be a great candidate for the job. While attending college, select a major geared toward travel-related work. There are several options you can choose from. When making your choice, select a college with a solid reputation in the field you are considering. This will put you in the best position to complete internships or semester abroad programs, which will be beneficial when applying for work. Don’t let tuition and related costs prevent you from following your dreams. Private student loans allow you to borrow what you need to cover the costs, and after graduation, you will be in a position to apply for the job you want.

International Development

Workers in international development often work in community development, social welfare, and related issues. You will study a variety of social sciences so you are better able to understand the economy, social structure, and related matters in the country you end up working in. People who work in international development often work for non-profit organizations or NGOs.

International Studies

If the idea of working in diplomacy sounds interesting, you should consider a major in international studies. You will study political science, economics, and a variety of other social sciences. To make yourself a more attractive candidate for positions in diplomacy, work to become fluent in a foreign language. To work in diplomacy, you can expect to work for the federal government.

Other Options

If you have a strong desire to work abroad, but want to work in the private sector, there are other options available. Any large, international company can be a good choice. It can be challenging to move to another country and find a job, but if you work for a company with offices in other countries, you often have the option to apply for positions as they open up. Your employer will handle the paperwork and fees associated with the move. If you want to remain based in the US, but would like to travel, there are choices available as well. Many jobs in the hospitality industry require you to travel. Working as a travel agent, flight attendant, or other support personnel involves travel, although you are often limited to how much free time you have while you are traveling.

Another option is working for a large hospitality company. Hotels, resorts, casinos, and related businesses have the same need for marketing professionals, human resources employees, accountants, and other staff that any other business has. However, they often offer, as part of their benefits package, the ability to use related facilities around the world for free or reduced rates. Airline employees, even those that never leave the airport, such as baggage handlers, often have access to excellent flight deals as part of their benefits package. Many of these companies even offer these benefits to part-time employees, making it a great choice for someone looking for a side gig.
