As thoughts turn to warmer weather adventures, TripAdvisor reveals the ten best beaches in the world, with a new destination taking the number one spot!

Last year Rabbit Beach in Sicily was crowned the number one best beach on earth, but this year it slips to fourth. The list is dominated, rather predictably, by traditionally tropical destinations including the Caribbean and Hawaii. In third spot is Puerto Rico’s year round paradise of Flamenco Beach and in second place is the dreamy Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos. Number one spot is awarded to the serene Baia do Sancho Beach in Brazil’s UNESCO-listed Fernando de Noronha archipelago, proving once again that all eyes are on Brazil in 2014.

Top 10 Beaches in the World

1. Baia do Sancho, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil
2. Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
3. Flamenco Beach, Culebra, Puerto Rico
4. Rabbit Beach, Lampedusa, Italy
5. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island, Australia
6. Playa de ses Illetes, Formentera, Spain
7. Anse Lazio, Praslin Island, Seychelles
8. Lanikai Beach, Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii
9. Rhossili Bay, Swansea, Wales
10. Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres, Mexico

The top three best beaches in the US are Lanikai Beach in Hawaii (which is also the eighth best in the world), followed by Ka'anapali Beach in Lahaina, Hawaii and third up is the Siesta Key Public Beach in Florida.

Europe’s beach season starts to hot up about now, what with spring break and the Easter holidays just around eh corner. And if you want to check out some of the best sand and seas combos, head to  Rabbit Beach on the tiny Sicilian island of Lampedusa, Playa de ses Illetes on the Balearic island of Formentera and head to the best beach in the UK; Rhossili Bay in Swansea.

Asia is packed with history, culture and its own fair share of sublime beaches with these named as the top three; White Beach in Boracay on the Filipino island of Visayas; Radhanagar Beach on Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands; and Agonda Beach in India’s South Goa region.
