A recent survey revealed that more and more smartphone users are using their devices to browse travel websites and download travel related apps. There are some great apps out there and the best news is that a lot of them are totally FREE to download. Check out our suggestions;

FlightRights – FlightRights is a must have travel app for frequent flyers. It tells you your rights, and helps you file complaints when flying. It provides a way for travelers to easily file complaints for air travel discrimination. It is essential for air travelers to be able to report complaints to air travelers easily. All formats, FREE.

Trapster – Download Trapster which helps you plan a road trip with maximum efficiency by alerting you to speed cameras, accidents and traffic lights. All formats, FREE.

TripIT – TripIT, is the all-in-one travel itinerary that is a must have for any traveller on the go. It has everything that you will need to know for your trip. It gives directions; maps of the area, important information on sites to see, even the ability share your plans with friends and loved ones that are nearby on your trip. Yelp – Yelp is a popular review site with invaluable information on sites-to-see, dining, and cultural events. You will be able to use this to see what others have rated and said about, the sites you plan to see. It is one of the most popular social review applications and websites with millions of users, and reviews of millions of sites. FREE on iPhone Android.

TripAdvisor – TripAdvisor is one of the most popular travel apps available and for good reason. It can give you all you need to know about you destinations and help you find the best deals. WhatsApp – If you plan on keeping in touch with family and loved ones on your trip, you probably don’t want to rack-up expensive cellular roaming charges, so try WhatsApp, a mobile messaging service; the perfect solution! First year FREE for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia.

Google Translate – Never get caught out ordering from a menu again! Google translate is a great tool for travellers who either does not know the local language or doesn’t have the confidence to speak it. It’s a great rapid translator for being able to communicate quickly. Users can currently translate text between 65 languages and a new option allows users to speak their text instead of typing, which is available in 17 languages. Convert Pad, Unit Converter – This app is absolutely invaluable when travelling the world as you can easily work out currency conversions. This also doubles as a calculator and weights and measurements converter as well which is pretty handy! Never get conned at the market again. FREE on all formats.

Spotify – Log into your usual Spotify account and enjoy all your stored playlists wherever you are in the world! This app allows you to listen to music and share it. For long journeys and waits this is a must-have app. FREE across all platforms.

Flightradar24 – If you’re a frequent flyer you’ll love the Flightradar24 app which shows airplane traffic across the globe and all in real time too. This flick tracking app will zap hours of time whilst you’re waiting around. FREE on all devices.
