Scenic Beauty: 10 Best Bicycle Paths in New York City

  • June 14, 2018
  • admin

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to spend a ton of money to travel off to a far away place,โ€ said Blair Nicole, spokesperson, Bike Rental Central Park. โ€œHop on a bike and take a tour around some of the gems in your own backyard. ย Youโ€™ll refresh your mind, sleep better and be a lot more productive.โ€

Here are 10 of the most scenic bike routes in NYC.

  1. Central Park Loop

The Great Lawn is one of the most famous lawns in the world having concerts for Diana Ross, the Metropolitan Opera, and the New York Philharmonic. You can view this area on the route as well as the Bethesda Fountain, Central Park Zoo, legendary sculptures, museums including the museum of the city of New York, and over 20 playgrounds.

  1. Governor’s Island

Take one of the bike-friendly ferries over to Governor’s Island and enjoy the many attractions. On the island you will be able to enjoy viewing Lower Manhattan while riding your bicycle on paths free of cars. If the kids come along for the journey they could ride around the Hills and view the tallest slide in New York. If the kids want to have some fun make a pit stop at the play fountain.

  1. Pulaski to Williamsburg Bridge

On this pathway, you can ride around North Brooklyn and Long Island City. Take a detour to the McCarren Park for a family friendly trip around the spectacular vicinity.

  1. Rockaways Ride

If you enjoy more relaxing rides, the Rockaways Ride would definitely a good fit for you. It’s about seven miles in length and you can enjoy a nice view of the beaches near the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge.

  1. Hudson River Greenway

You’re in for a treat on the Hudson River Greenway bike path! Going down this path gives you the ability to get up close and personal with the Hudson River. Hunger won’t be an issue on this journey either. Take a moment to sit outside at the Boat Basin Cafe. The restaurant is located inside Riverside Park with an overview of the Marina and the Hudson River.

  1. Carroll Gardens to Coney Island

Go down the historical Carroll Gardens to Coney Island pathway to experience riding on the nation’s first bike path. You’ll get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Cobble Hill-Carroll Gardens.

  1. Bronx River Path

Enjoy riding along the river bank through this path. The trees surrounding you will keep you out of the sun making your trip easier to enjoy. When you’re done with your trip enjoy the Kensico Dam plaza. You’ll be able to picnic, skate, use the playground, or go on a nature study!

  1. Prospect Park Path

Anyone can ride this path. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a professional, the terrain is smooth enough to enjoy. If you feel a little competitive plan a trip around the time this path hosts its yearly NYC Spring Bicycle Race Series. It’s going to be 3.2 miles of fun!

  2. Ward’s Island Bike Path

This bike path sits on a whopping 255-acre island park! Enjoy riding around the nature centers and beaches. You will enjoy viewing this scenic route! While you’re there, take a look at the historical houses nearby.

  1. Pier 84 to City Island

If you would like to go on the ultimate cycling journey, try the Pier 84 to City Island path. This is one of the longest bike paths in New York. The path is about 18 miles long. Imagine all the space you could cover and things you could experience while on the journey! You’ll get the chance to view a huge bird population, fishing village, and massive Victorian mansions! Not only that, but you’ll have a chance to ride through the Bronx and cross the Hudson River. Grab a bite to eat from the large selection of restaurants in City Island when you’re finished and take the subway back to Manhattan!
