Experience These Coastal Gems with a Fethiye to Olympos Blue Cruise

  • March 20, 2017
  • admin

As you sail from Fethiye to Olympos, be sure to enjoy the moments at these beautiful bays, historical highlights, and coastal villages along the way.

Turkey is full of magnificent places to visit, from the incredible fairytale valleys of Cappadocia to the well preserved ancient ruins of Ephesus, there is so much to see and do. However, a trip to Turkey would be incomplete without also exploring the Turquoise coastline of the Mediterranean. A 4 Day Sail Turkey Olympos to Fethiye cruise is one of the best ways to do this and while on board, you are guaranteed to visit many of the highlights of the southern coast of Turkey.

In between cruising the coastline and lunchtime stops in beautifully secluded bays, you will visit all of the following places and have many opportunities for interesting shore excursions and exciting additional activities. This route can also be done in the reverse direction and cruises run both ways on this route every week throughout the summer months. This is the most popular blue cruise route in Turkey due to the incredible natural beauty and the variety of places visited. The history of this area is an attraction in itself, with relics from Lycians, Romans, Ottomans, and Greeks sprinkled around the area.

Fethiye

As the departure point of your Fethiye to Olympos blue cruise, Fethiye should be included on your itinerary as a must-see destination. Reserve a day or two before your cruise to wander the old town, stroll along the harbor promenade, enjoy a delicious meal at the famous fish market, and maybe even take a short trek in an around the ghost village of Kayakoy. Fethiye is an ideal Mediterranean town and it should at least be tasted before you depart on your blue cruise.

Oludeniz Blue Lagoon

As one of the first stops along this route, Oludeniz will give you an incomparable introduction to daily life on a gulet cruise. As you approach the Blue Lagoon while relaxing and enjoying drinks on board, you will be stunned by the panorama of this picturesque bay. In fact, the Oludeniz Blue Lagoon is the most photographed beach in all of Turkey and from one glance, you will quickly see why. Relax on board or on the shore but if you are feeling adventurous, take a ride up to Babadag (Father Mountain) and jump off from this popular paragliding spot. The view is well worth the adrenaline rush you are sure to feel.

Butterfly Valley

On your next stop in Butterfly Valley, you will be equally impressed by the surrounding scenery. Like something out of a glossy tourism magazine, the clear blue water and white sand with a backdrop of a 2,000 meter high ravine will leave you speechless. A secluded and untouched area, Butterfly Valley remains one of the best spots to spend a day swimming and admiring the view. It is only reachable by boat and is home to many varieties of butterfly species. Spending the night here is a peaceful way to spend your first night on board and the sunset and sunrise you will witness are definitely unparalleled experiences.

Kas

Kas is an introduction back to civilization after a night’s stay in the secluded and peaceful Butterfly Valley, however, Kas has its own kind of calm with an unhurried ambience and quintessentially Mediterranean lifestyle. Disembark here to wander the cobblestoned streets and discover small boutiques and cafes along the waterfront. Find refuge from the heat in the shade of a vine-covered cafe and enjoy a cold drink before exploring the nearby ruins of an amphitheater located just outside the center of town. Kas is also well known as a beautiful spot for diving and gulet passengers will be given the opportunity to do so, no matter your level of training.

Simena Castle & The Sunken City

For a chance to stretch your legs, disembark in the village of Kalekoy to attempt the steep climb up to Simena Castle. The climb will challenge you but the view from the top will make it all worth it. From the castle viewpoint, the island of Kekova will come into view. This island is your next stop and as your captain expertly glides the gulet alongside the island, you will be able to marvel at the remains of a sunken city just below the water’s extremely clear surface.

Olympos

As your Sail Turkey gulet reaches its final destination, you undoubtedly will feel a bit sad that it is over. Fortunately, one last destination awaits and it is just as beautiful and unique as the previous destinations you visited on your blue cruise journey. Olympos is an ancient Lycian city and is also home to a stunning piece of the coastline. Be sure to spend a day or two in this small haven and stay in one of the unique treehouse accommodations that this village is more recently known for. Explore the ruins and spend some hours at the beach, taking some time to wind down on land after days of living the blue cruise lifestyle.
