France Vs Austria: Which has the Best Ski Resorts

  • June 17, 2016
  • admin

The Alps; the big daddy of the winter sport world, but trying to choose one country to travel to out of the collection is nearly impossible, but I narrowed my two contenders down to France and Austria. How to decide which is best, though? Below, Iโ€™ve compiled a small list of the top resorts that they both have to offer and we can then see which one comes out tops; however you could always visit a company that specialise in skiing holidays like AlpineElements and then take a few ski trips yourself and make your own mind upโ€ฆ

France

  • Courchevel

One of the most famous ski resorts in the world, Courchevel is a collection of four different ski villages with Courchevel 1850 being the highest and most exclusive. Being at the 1850 feels as if someone moved St Tropez or Monaco to the French Alps. It is the first choice for the British and Saudi royal families as well as celebrities such as the Beckhams, George Clooney, and Roman Abramovich. This ski resort is not for the faint of heart, but if you can survive, it has some of the most luxuries accommodation and amenities know to the hospitality trade.

  • Megรฉve

You know a place is fancy when the countryโ€™s own aristocracy choose to frequent it. Megรฉve, found practically on the slopes of Mount Blanc itself, is the very epitome of luxury and glamour all rolled into one. Unlike a lot of resorts that spring up within or next to a town, (like St. Anton โ€“ see below), Megรฉve was built for the sole purpose of being a magnet for Europeโ€™s rich and famous. This place is so exclusive that they even have an elegant and swanky MacDonaldโ€™sโ€ฆ Yep, you read that right.

Austria

  • St Anton

Perhaps the only competition to Courchevel 1850, St. Anton is an Austrian town that is one of the most popular ski resorts in the world. It is situated in the snowiest part of Austria and so makes for some incredible skiing terrain. What makes St. Anton so special, however, is not just its amazing ski routes, but also its extra activities. The town is filled with exclusive hotels, restaurants, and shops that cater almost exclusively to the roaring ski trade that comes through to experience this wonderland.

  • Zรผrs

The people who frequent the slopes of Zรผrs are so rich and famous that they donโ€™t actually do all that much skiing, but are usually too busy knocking back champagnes and caviar in one of the very luxurious hotels. So, if you want quiet slopes and the feeling that youโ€™re a Hollywood super star, than Zรผrs is where you go. Found in the Arlberg ski region, like St Anton, this is an idyllic resort that, although small, will ensure a repeat visit once you get a taste of the luxury on offer.

I know I promised you Iโ€™d name the best country for skiing on the Alps, but after writing both arguments, I realised I canโ€™t; maybe if I had to choose (gun to the head), I might choose France, but then again I adore St. Anton. The decision is really too difficult for meโ€ฆ
