Discover Mexico DF and its strong Hispanic heritage

  • November 21, 2022
  • Jules

One of the cities I have enjoyed the most is, without a doubt, Mexico City. It is by far my favourite spot in Central America, especially for its exquisite food.

Its people, beautiful landscapes, gastronomy and varied tourist attractions make Mexico a must-see place on all my lists.

When hearing the word Mexico for the first time, I only thought about delicious tacos, sun, beaches, and the famous Dรญa de Los Muertos.  But, Mexico is more than that; I was greatly surprised by discovering that this vibrant city shows its pre-Columbian and Hispanic heritage all over the country.

Let me show you the elements that make Mexico City my preferred location for a getaway by this time of the year. After this review, maybe you can consider going too and discovering this paradise on your own

Discovering Mexico

I am not the only person passionate about Mexico. According to the World Tourism Organization, the city is the second most visited country in the world. That’s no surprise; since there are plenty of reasons that justify this ranking.

Mexico is located in North America, bordered by the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the United States, Belize and Guatemala. The country has a varied climate, which changes by season and region.

The accessible location and diverse climate conditions have favoured the growth of Mexican Tourism since it offers a wide range of activities for all tourists. Ancient ruins, colonial cities, natural reserves, modern architecture, festivals, gastronomy offers, and beach resorts are features describing Mexico’s tourism potential.

Mexican culture and history

Most tourists only know brief information about this colourful city. Tacos are indeed delicious, Riviera Maya is a stunning place, and beach resorts are the hippest in the world. But, what they donโ€™t know is that Mexico has a rich history dating back even before the Spanish settlers arrived in this unexplored country.

Spanish indeed has had a strong influence on Mexico’s current lifestyle, especially in culinary trends. Spices, different types of meats, and crops like rice were adopted very quickly in Mexican cuisine. But, Mayas, Toltec, and Aztec civilizations shaped the region’s roots.

Mayas, Toltecs, and Aztecs were the predominant indigenous societies in Mexico. You can see how their way of living comes to life in every ruin you encounter in the region.

Remains of squares, temples, palaces, pyramids, and game courts can be seen all over Mexico. You will be surprised by all the history these ruins hide among their constructions.

My recommendations

To understand Mexico’s historic and cultural heritage, you have to visit the ancient civilization ruins located in the country. Try to go to the most famous of these constructions.

The Mayan pyramids at Chichรฉn Itzรก

The most stunning archaeological place in Mexico. It comprises the Temple of Kukulkan, the Sacred Cenote, the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, The Observatory, The Patio of Thousand Columns, and The Castle. These constructions are the best representations of Mayan culture and their devotion to their gods.

The Archaeological Zone of Tulum

This is a must-see place in Mexico. The scenery formed by the ruins next to the beach is a breathtaking experience. Tulum was the most impressive city of the Mayan civilization. The cityยดs remains are well preserved; you can imagine its complete splendour.

This site wins extra points because of its privileged location. While visiting the ruins, you can also take the opportunity of swimming in their crystal clear waters or practising water sports in the area.

Coba

It is the largest Mayan civilization. Near Tulum and surrounded by the tropical forest of the Quintana Root, this site shows the highest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula:  Nohoch Mul. You can see conserved mural paintings in the Temple of the Frescoes. In the Observatory, you can see a temple dedicated to the Mayan calendar.

Secret tip for the lodging options

Enjoying beach resorts and delicious food sounds like a fun idea. But, when travelling to Mexico, donโ€™t miss the chance to get closer to this rich culture.  Visit the archaeological places and understand where Mexican peopleยดs vibes came from.

You can visit these popular spots any time of the year. Fortunately, near all of them, you can find excellent lodgings options to stay and have a wonderful experience.

If you are looking for a break before the year ends, this is a good time to do so. Take advantage of hotel promotions found by this time. Hotel chains wait for the ending-year period to offer customers excellent promotions.

Black Friday celebrations are the coming holidays this year. I recommend finding profitable black friday hotels for this period. Barcelรณ group has a varied catalogue of high-class hotels with incredible deals for this black Friday season.

Choose the one closest to the tourist sites you want to visit and uniquely discover Mexico.
