Tips for Packing Efficiently

  • February 15, 2022

Packing light has never been so easy, whether you’re going on a month-long road trip across the nation, traveling internationally, or going off to school in another city.

This article is a comprehensive packing list with everything you need for any occasion.

1. Roll Your Clothes

Have you ever found yourself in a pinch when packing for a trip? Rolling your clothes is one of the easiest but most efficient ways to pack more into your luggage or duffel. Although folding your clothes may appear to be the most convenient option, rolling them saves space and prevents wrinkles.

Remember to roll them tightly, because youโ€™re trying to compress them and push out all of the air. Begin with the bigger things, like pants and jackets, then work your way down to the smaller items, such as shirts and tank tops. You won’t be sorry if you use this idea while preparing for your next trip.

2. Fill Your Sneakers With Things

Shoes are the perfect tool for packing. They give you a convenient place to put anything that doesn’t fit in your bag. Whether you’re packing too much and need an extra pocket to put items like socks or jewelry, or you’re trying to save space and don’t want to fill your suitcase with shoes, they’ll work as an ideal storage compartment for your smaller items.

3. Use Packing Cubes

Rolling your clothes might seem like a time-saving technique, but it can be tedious and take up a lot of space. To save room and avoid the hassle, try packing cubes. These can help you organize your belongings and condense them into a much smaller area.

The space-saving and organizational capabilities of these zipped fabric containers make them a must-have for travelers. You can use different cubes to store different types of items to help you stay organized. This way, you wonโ€™t have to dig through your suitcase for that one item you canโ€™t do without!

4. Wear Your Heaviest Item of Clothing on the Plane or Bus

It’s a packing trick that many travelers swear by. The idea is to wear your most giant pair of shoes while traveling instead of packing them in your luggage. This way you can save room in your suitcase or duffel bag for other necessities.

5. Pack Toiletries in Small Travel-Size Containers

You can take your favorite shampoo and face wash with you when you travel, even if the brand isn’t available in travel-size bottles. Purchase several empty travel-size bottles that you can fill up with whatever you like. Youโ€™ll generally want to keep these below 3 ounces so that they can go through airport security and because thereโ€™s less damage if it leaks.

About the leaking problem, though. Itโ€™s real, and itโ€™s happened to me. If you donโ€™t want all of your clothes covered in shampoo, you should put those bottles in a leak-resistant toiletries case.
