3 Ways To Ensure Your Toiletries Never Cause You Issues While Flying

  • September 28, 2020

While there are plenty of other things to make people nervous about air travel during the current global pandemic, even before this, the idea of going through security at the airport was enough to make even the most calm and collected person get a little anxious.

One reason many people feel stressed about going through the airport is due to the strict rules about packing items that you take on the plane with you, especially toiletries. So to help you keep yourself out of trouble with TSA and avoid any kind of mishaps with poorly packed liquids and gels, here are three ways you can ensure that your toiletries never cause you issues while flying.

Only Bring What You Need

As a general rule with packing in general, itโ€™s best to only bring what you need to conserve space. But when youโ€™re packing for air travel, bringing only what you need is a lot more essential.

According to Johanna Kaplan, a contributor to The Spruce, getting all the liquid or gel toiletries that you need to fit within 3.4-ounce bottles in a 1-quart bag can be a real challenge. But if youโ€™re able to pare down what you are taking with you, this can quickly become a lot easier.

To help you do this, you should try to buy your items in a travel size if youโ€™re able to. If this isnโ€™t possible with some of the items youโ€™ll need, create your own travel-sized items that you can then fill with whatever liquid or gel that you need. And remember, 3.4-ounces is the largest you can goโ€”packing in smaller containers is always an option.

Be Careful When Packing Razors

Although you are allowed to pack some types of razors in your toiletries that you carry onto the plane, you need to be careful that you pack the right kinds and that you pack them in a safe nammer.

Cynthia Myers, a contributor to USA Today, shares that you can only pack disposable razors and the replacement cartridges for them in your carry-on bag. If youโ€™re bringing safety razor blades or other types of razors for personal hygiene, youโ€™ll need to put those in a checked bag. Additionally, youโ€™ll want to be sure that you put your razors in an area of your bag that you wonโ€™t accidentally reach into and cut yourself. For this reason, you should also only bring a razor that you have a cover for so that it doesnโ€™t harm you or any of the belongings that you have packed in your bags.ย

Use Plastic For Protection

The last thing you want to have happen when you open up your bags upon arriving at your destination is to see that your toiletries have opened up in transit and spilled all over your clothes and other possessions.

To avoid this, Elyse Hauser, a contributor to LifeSavvy.com, recommends that you use plastic to seal underneath the caps of any liquids or gels that you pack. Also, you should put anything that could possibly spill or leak into a sealed bag and pack it away from your clothes.ย

If youโ€™ve ever had an issue with liquids or gels when youโ€™ve flown before, consider using the tips mentioned above to make sure you donโ€™t have any problems in the future.
