 Natural wonders

The 26 hectare reserve at Umhlanga Lagoon is simply stunning and features two trails to explore. South Africa is famous for its game reserves where some of the world’s most precious animals are saved from extinction. Book a trip to Hluhluwe, one of Africa’s oldest reserves, to see black and white rhinos.

Leisurely pursuits

A holiday in Umhlanga can be as relaxing or as active as you like. There are plenty of outdoor pursuits to enjoy, from water sports to golf. There are eleven different golf course in easy reach of the resort, including the challenging Prince’s Grant and the famous Durban Country Club Championship Course. The Mount Edgecombe Estate has two championship golf courses which are ranked as among the best in the world. Rugby is one of South Africa’s national pastimes and a trip to watch local team The Sharks is sure to be a highlight for any sports fan. Taking part in a trek on horseback is a lovely way to explore the region’s wonderful scenery.

Paradise beaches

One of the biggest draws of a beach holiday in Umhlanga near Durban are the magnificent golden sands, which stretch for more than 200km. The crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean are warm all year round so you can enjoy a refreshing dip between relaxing sunbathing sessions and learning to snorkel or scuba dive is a fun way to explore the plentiful local marine life. A short drive south of Durban you can also visit one of the region’s top dive sites, the Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area. Here fossilised sand dunes have made an unusual natural reef which is the perfect place to find large congregations of harmless ragged-tooth sharks.

The beachside resort of Umhlanga is undoubtedly one of South Africa’s gems. With gorgeous paradise beaches, stunning scenery and plenty to see and do, you’re sure to enjoy the perfect holiday of a lifetime.
