The Five Best Countries To Enjoy An Alcohol-Free Getaway In 2023

  • February 20, 2023
  • Jules

While many people enjoy indulging in local drinks during their travels, there are plenty of reasons why someone may choose to have an alcohol-free holiday. Whether it’s for health reasons, personal preference, or having suffered previously from alcoholism, there are many countries that offer a variety of activities and experiences for those looking to avoid alcohol.

In the case of the latter, it can be a daunting experience to go on holiday for the first time sober, and if not fully prepared it can cause many people to relapse. However, that becomes a lot easier when you visit a country that isnโ€™t quite as bothered by alcohol, whether that be a cultural or religious thing.

They can be ideal places to visit for an alcohol-free holiday, and here are the best five countries to explore sober in 2023โ€ฆ

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates, home to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, is a great destination for an alcohol-free holiday. Alcohol is heavily restricted in public places, and many hotels and restaurants are dry. However, the UAE offers a wide range of attractions and activities, including stunning beaches, world-class shopping, and exciting theme parks. You can also experience traditional Emirati culture by visiting historic sites and enjoying delicious local cuisine.

Morocco

Morocco is a beautiful country known for its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. Alcohol is available in certain areas, but it’s not a central part of Moroccan culture, and many locals don’t drink at all. This means that there are plenty of activities and experiences available for those who want to avoid alcohol, including exploring the historic medinas of Marrakech and Fez, visiting beautiful beaches, and hiking in the Atlas Mountains.

Japan

Japan is a fascinating country with a unique culture and incredible food. While there is a drinking culture in Japan, there are plenty of alcohol-free options available, including green tea, traditional Japanese sweets, and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails. Japan is also home to stunning natural landscapes, beautiful temples and shrines, and exciting cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Considering joining Tokyo tours to explore the city’s most vibrant districts, rich history and modern attractions all while savouring the culinary delights and cultural attractions of Japan.

India

India is a vast and diverse country with a rich cultural heritage and a wide range of experiences for travellers. While alcohol is widely available in some parts of India, it’s not a central part of the country’s culture, and many Indians don’t drink at all. This means that there are plenty of things to see and do for those who want to avoid alcohol, including visiting historic sites like the Taj Mahal, exploring bustling cities like Mumbai and Delhi, and experiencing the country’s incredible food and hospitality.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a popular destination for eco-tourists and nature lovers, with its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and incredible wildlife. While alcohol is available in Costa Rica, the country is also home to a growing wellness and health tourism industry, with many retreats and resorts offering alcohol-free options. You can enjoy a wide range of activities in Costa Rica, including surfing, yoga, and hiking, as well as experiencing the country’s vibrant culture and delicious cuisine.
