Australia’s one of the best destinations on earth. The beautiful landscapes, intriguing wildlife, and non-existent language barrier make it a great place to explore. However, with the vibrant economy, the standard of living is high. By working while on their visits, tourists can augment their income and enjoy their experiences to the fullest.

Before they find work in Australia, visitors are required to know certain things to ensure their success and ensure the process is as seamless as possible. This post explores some of them:

  • First Things First

For those planning to work while visiting Australia, the most common path is to obtain a working holiday visa. This allows visitors to undertake employment while on their stay, which can last for a maximum of 12 months.

Second, everyone working in Australia is required to pay tax. Therefore, visitors are also required to obtain a Tax File Number (TFN). Failure to do so will result in a penalty tax payment of 46.5% (which is the maximum tax rate).

Finally, they need to open their Australian bank account.

  • Follow The Rules

Australia is very keen on its laws. Therefore, visitors must ensure that they stay in line with it. For instance, before a person can work as a bartender, waiter, or any other role where alcohol may be served, they need to complete a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training. This training can be completed online, even before visitors arrive in Australia.

Therefore, job seekers should know what extra training or qualification is legally required for the job role they’re hoping to secure.

  • Job Search Websites

Thanks to the internet, temporary job seekers, from the comfort of their homes, can now browse through job platforms to look for vacancies. Job sites like Seek, MyCareer, Jora are a fantastic starting point.

Seek, Jora, and Career One, in particular, are ideal for those on working holiday visa, who are only looking for temporary or contract work.

  • Prepare an Effective Resume

Many people underestimate the power of a well-written Resume. Every employer is looking for workers who can get the job with minimal troubles. A resume provides the perfect platform for a person to show how their qualifications align with the role. Therefore, an effective resume that captures the attention of the employer is more likely to get the person an interview. Contact info should also be included in the resume. In a number of instances, you will be required to present a background check like an afp police check certificate that Australian employers use to screen workers. You can get a criminal history check online or you can get one from the local police station.

  • Take Advantage of Seasonal Work

Depending on the time of the year, there are certain jobs visitors can take advantage of. For instance, during the Christmas period, lots of places will be looking for temporary staff to relieve native Aussies that want to spend time with their families.

Farms are also a good place to find works like fruit picking. It’s not the most exciting job, but it will provide extra money.

  • Word of Mouth

Many people underestimate the power of referrals. By harnessing their networks, visitors can secure temporary jobs.

  • Put Yourself Out There

At the end of the day, visitors need to go out to establishments like hotels, where they can meet with potential employers to see if they can fill a vacant role.

They also have to lose pride. Cleaning jobs, night shifts, laboring and more, are usually in abundance.

Summing up

Even as they make money, visitors should not forget to have fun and create memories they’ll cherish for a long time to come.
