When traveling overseas or in any other country it is important to pick up a local Prepaid SIM card which serves as a cheap option for connecting.    Using your daily SIM card on holiday is not a good idea as you will find that rooming rates and calls can be very expensive. As such, most travelers consider using a prepaid travel SIM card very convenient.

Tips on How to Find the Best Prepaid SIM card When Traveling

Getting a local prepaid SIM card topup will provide the most efficient and stress-free way of using your mobile phone when traveling. It is the most cost-effective option although there may be other methods of keeping connected while traveling abroad.   These prepaid SIM cards are readily available in most airports, phone providers and from electronic and department stores; you should be able to get one easily wherever you land. Technically, every country has a mobile network where each network comes with a variety of plans and options depending on the country. Some plans will offer you big data inclusions while others come with unlimited talk time and text and many more.

Always bring your National ID or other Personal identification documents. This is an important prerequisite as such ensure that you show your ID or your passport when buying the SIM card.

Purchase your SIM card in a store where the employees speak in a language that you can understand preferably the English Language. The set-up of the local SIM card in most cases will be in the local language, as such you may want to buy the SIM card in a store where they will be able to help you in the set-up process and help you top up the SIM.

Ensure that you include your new number to you your outgoing voicemail messages to ensure that people will be able to reach you without missing any important calls.

Due to securities reasons, some countries like India and Bangladesh have tightened restrictions on non-residents to purchase prepaid SIM card. As such you are advised to get a travel SIM or use free Wi-Fi if your destination includes those countries. NB: A local prepaid SIM card works only in the country where you bought it unless you are ready to pay for expensive roaming.
