How to Get the Most Out of Charter Fishing

  • December 3, 2018

Nothing keeps the adrenaline pumping quite like the exciting sport of charter fishing. Catching big fish has always been an activity for the manliest man. It involves patience, problem-solving skills, and a thirst for adventure. It is also an immortal pastime that you will have to try out, whether you’re looking for a new sport or simply taking some time off from work.

Charter fishing, in this sense, has everything you need to be in your element. But to make the most out of it, you will need to learn a few important things.

Tip #1 – It’s All About Location

Now, when it comes to scouting a good location for your charter fishing trip, simply search for waters where you can expect big catches. Looking outside the United States, there are lots of great places to go. In Italy, there’s Sicily. When you go to Mexico, there’s Cabo San Lucas.

If you’re looking for destinations close to home, you can head on over to Florida where there’s a bountiful population of sharks, tuna, and snapper. It’s only a matter of finding the right tour operator for Shark Fishing Charters in Miami, Florida that will help you find the best hotspots for the best catches.

Maybe you want a charter somewhere around the central US where you are. Green Bay walleye fishing guides are a great start if walleye is one of your favorite fish. Maybe summer fishing isn’t your thing though. Don’t worry because there are plenty of ice fishing guides in Green Bay too. Just need to be ready to deal with the cold weather.

Tip #2 – Gather the squad

Charter fishing is best enjoyed with your buddies. Whether they’re your co-workers or your former college roommates, there’s definitely value in the time you spend with the group. Plus, you get your fair share of the excitement when you finally reel in a large fish. It makes for a great “Instagrammable” moment you can share with other people.

You will need to ask the tour operator about individual and group rates. See if they have inclusions for drinks as well as other perks that will really maximize the experience.

Tip #3 – Be among strangers

Your friends are busy on the weekend? Well, it’s no reason to call off your charter fishing tour. You can still go by yourself, but you’ll most likely share the tour with around ten other people. If you have no problem meeting strangers and talking about fish, then you’re good.

But don’t just talk about fish. This is an opportunity to connect with others who probably have the same interests. Crack open a few beers and share them with people on the boat while you wait for the hotspot. This will make for a great campfire session, the difference being you’re on a boat.

Tip #4 – Look for your target catch

If you’re familiar with the Pokémon games, then you have basically prepared yourself for the real-world excitement that charter fishing offers. While you can make do with random catches, it’s still better to create a checklist of the fish you would want to add to your “collection”.

If you’re in Orlando, you can find destinations where you can catch some bass. But going beyond these usual catches, you may as well hunt for rarer varieties such as sawfish. If you’re up to the challenge, you can add a blue marlin to the list.
