An Extended Vacation: Staying Longer Where You Love

  • March 14, 2018
  • admin

If you travel often, youโ€™re likely to have found some places overseas that you find more special than others. Sometimes itโ€™s a mixture of cuisine, culture, environment, and pace of life that contributes to a place becoming more than just a holiday destination, and leaves you with some of the best memories, or plans to return in the future. Vacationing somewhere is one thing, but having an extended period of time in a specific location, can be quite another. Whether you plan to stay for, or extend your trip to a matter of months, or even longer; planning and preparation will be the key to a successful stay. Who knows; your favored place to relax and unwind, or soak up the sights and culture, could become the place you call home for the foreseeable future.

They say that thereโ€™s no better way to really get to know a place than to live there as a local would, and fully immerse yourself in the surroundings and way of life. However, staying overseas for longer periods of time will take plenty of preparation and planning, especially if you want to relocate with a partner or your family. But, thatโ€™ll be part of your big adventure and will allow you to put all your efforts into a great trip so that youโ€™ll appreciate every second a bit more. The will be several factors to take into consideration, so itโ€™s time to get a notebook and pen ready to write some detailed lists that you can get through before you take off. The following are some ideas, inspiration, and advice for those who want to take an extended vacation somewhere, and head to their dream location to live for a longer period of time this year.

Get Your Admin Sorted Out

Like with any trip abroad; itโ€™s the paperwork and admin side of things that can prove problematic before youโ€™ve even reached the airport. However, ensuring that youโ€™ve covered all bases in regards to your adventure will allow you to relax once youโ€™ve landed in the knowledge that youโ€™ve done everything by the book. Remember that because you wonโ€™t be heading out to a more traditional resort-based holiday with a travel company, youโ€™ll need to take the laws of your chosen country into consideration as well as those from your own. Therefore, youโ€™ll need to do your research into the laws surrounding how long you can reside somewhere, and what youโ€™ll need to get before you embark on any paid work, or getting some accommodation for an extended period of time. Seek help and advice from a reputable immigration attorney so that youโ€™ve got all the knowledge and information, and so your adventure is likely to be more of a success. The last thing you want is to have your trip cut short because you donโ€™t have the right paperwork, so put it in place before you leave, and sort out any documents or approval, once youโ€™ve arrived.

When it comes to your travel and belongings insurance; youโ€™ll need to ensure that youโ€™re covered for the duration of your stay. These are the little things that are easy to forget, especially if you end up staying longer than expected. Therefore, invest in the right cover for your potential journey ahead; youโ€™ll thank yourself if anything becomes lost or stolen, or if you need to cut the adventure short for any reason. Understanding where and how you can reach medical help and assistance is also crucial for a long-term getaway or relocation, so ensure youโ€™re insured and know where to reach your nearest amenities. Youโ€™ll need to think about each aspect of admin that you sort out at home, and transfer those things to your staycation; it might seem laborious, but itโ€™s an essential part of a successful relocation overseas.

Find A Place To Call Home

To settle-in anywhere, youโ€™ll need the right accommodation for your needs and the duration of your stay. You donโ€™t want to be moving from place to place throughout your time overseas; thatโ€™s for a different kind of trip, where you want to explore. This time will be about becoming a resident of the country, city, town, or village that youโ€™ve fallen in love with because youโ€™ve carefully worked-out how to extend your stay. Youโ€™ll already have a great idea of the location specifics before youโ€™ve found a particular abode. Therefore, youโ€™ll need to look into rent costs and ensure that youโ€™ve budgeted to cover your living expenses. Ensure that you arrive at a furnished pad, thatโ€™s near plenty of transport options, or the amenities near your doorstep. If you plan to work over there; youโ€™ll need to set-up home nearby, or within easy reach via car or public transport. Start building your lifestyle before you leave, and youโ€™ll have a smooth and enjoyable road ahead.

New Faces And Friends

A support system is another crucial aspect of any successful residence. Therefore, youโ€™ll need to make an effort to get out and about as much as possible in the first few weeks of your stay. Donโ€™t be fearful of striking up a conversation with people, especially if youโ€™ve seen them on more than one occasion; they might just be in a similar situation to you and looking to make acquaintances and friends. Get to know your local business owners and those that work in your new area; these are the people that will be able to help you settle in and find the essentials while your there. If you are heading over to work; invite your colleagues back to your place after work, or make dinner or drinks plans regularly. The more you invest time and effort in the people around you, the better chance you have of building relationships that will ensure your stay is a great one, so make it a priority once youโ€™ve found where youโ€™re living.

Relocating may seem a little overwhelming at times; however, if you ensure that youโ€™ve done all you can before you embark on your trip, thereโ€™s no reason you wonโ€™t have the time of your life once youโ€™re there.
