We at PureTravel would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, wherever you are in the world and whatever you may be doing. We hope you have a happy, safe and peaceful Christmas.

Christmas Gingerbread House

There are a few festive stories around at this time of year (as you might expect) including a new Guinness world record for the biggest gingerbread in the world – I’ve requested my very own gingerbread house as a Christmas present today but it’ll have nothing on this one!

This awesome house measures 18.28 m (60 ft) in length, with a width of 12.8 m (42 ft) and reaches a height of 3.07 m (10.1 ft). It was completed on 30 November (just in time for Christmas) in Bryan in Texas, USA. The house was then opened to families to meet Santa, with the aim of raising money for charity. And over 150,000 USD was raised for a local children’s hospital.

And in case you wondered, if eaten, the house would contain 36 million calories!

Largest Human Christmas Tree

Thailand has just broken the Guinness World Record for forming the largest human Christmas tree in the world. On Friday 22 November 852 students congregated at the Bangkok Siam Paragon Shopping Center and as the music played, the students formed the festive shape.

All participants had to wear an identical colour and stand within the allocated space. Proceedings were overseen by an official Guinness World Records representative. This smashes the previous world record, which was held by Germany who formed a tree of 672 people.

First Band to Play on All 7 Continents

And keeping within the festive theme, the mighty rock band Metallica have just completed a chilly gig in Antarctica – making them the first music act to play concerts across all seven continents!

The heavyweight US band played to 120 scientists and lucky competition winners within a see-through dome in Antarctica on 8 December. The hour long set dubbed ‘Freeze ‘Em All’ was performed in a silent disco theme as the trademark amps would have impacted the Antarctica environment. This completes another record as Metallica have just completed concerts in all seven continents in 2013!
