Tallest Chair Carousel Ride in the World Opens

  • May 5, 2013
  • Jules

The tallest (and scariest) chair carousel ride has just opened at a European themepark. Eclipse stands at a mighty 400 feet tall (122 meters) and sounds incredibly scary!

The chair ride (which is also known as a chair swing ride) is in the Swedish themepark of Gröna Lund, which is the oldest in the country. And as well as reaching a dizzying height of 400 feet, it also spins at an alarming 40mph – which is faster than a lot of people drive! The Swedish astronaut, Christer Fuglesang, rode the inaugural flight on Eclipse.

Gröna Lund is located in a suburb of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Opened in 1883 the themepark draws some 1.2 million visitors each year, which can explore 30 different attractions.

The unveiling of Eclipse coincides with the park’s 130th anniversary and offers a birdseye view over both Stockholm and the Djurgården district.

The city themepark has 7 rollercoasters in total including the mighty Jetline which reaches speeds of 60mph! It’s also famous for its summer music concerts and has hosted reggae legend Bob Marley a total of three times.

And if you’re looking for the ultimate romantic gesture – Eclipse is equipped with double width seats to you and your partner can enjoy the terror, sorry I mean fun, together!
