The best beaches in the UK have just been revealed and the number one winner is the stunningly beautiful Rhossili Bay in Wales, beating the tropical Caribbean and Hawaii beaches!

The survey from TripAdvisor found that Rhossili Beach, which lies to the west of Swansea, is also the third best beach in Europe and the tenth best beach in the world!

Rhossili Bay is situated on the naturally beautiful Gower Peninsula and the three mile beach (5km) is particularly breathtaking. The region is protected by the UK’s National Trust and the beach is known locally as Llangennith Sands.

As well as enjoying an invigorating beach walk, keen hikers can also enjoy spectacular panoramic views from atop Rhossili Down, which is the tallest point in the region. On a clear day the views are amazing with West wales across the sea, Lundy Island and the north coast of Devon all visible. Rhossili Down heathland is also home to many fascinating birds, plants and insects, including the rare black bog ant! Visitors can also traverse the rocky causeway to explore Worms Head, a tidal island that often has grey seals basking on the rocks.

Rhossili Bay is no stranger to media attention as it was featured in the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, where a choir performed live from the beach. Rhossili bay has also starred in Doctor Who as the location for ‘New Earth’ and the Old Rectory featured in an episode of Torchwood.

This was also the very first area in the UK to be designated as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and you’ll soon see why!
