| Departure from your hotel in Bangkok. After a visit of the Summer Palace Bang Pa-In you proceed to Ayuttahya, the former Capital of Thailand, which was destroyed by the Burmese in 1776. You will see the most important temples and have lunch at a local restaurant, before continuing to Sukothai, the first Capital of Siam. Overnight at Sukothai. | |
| After breakfast you will visit the historical town of Sukothai with it's ruins dating back to the 13th Century. We visit Wat Mahatat, the former Royal Temple and Wat Sri Chum with the 14 meter high sitting Buddha Statue, as well as the ruins at Sri Satchanalai. After lunch at a local restaurant you continue to Chiang Mai. Overnight at Chiang Mai. | |
| After breakfast we drive up the Suthep Mountain of Chiang Mai and visit the spectacular Wat Doi Suthep Temple with it's golden Chedi. After lunch at a local restaurant you visit an orchid farm and the famous handy crafts village of Chiang Mai, where teak wood carvings, silver articles, Sa-Paper umbrellas and Thai Silk are produced. | After breakfast we drive to the Mae Tamann Elephant Camp, where you experience the Kings of the jungle during a work demonstration. After the work demonstration you have time for an optional 1 hour elephant ride through the jungle as well as an ox-cart trip and a bamboo rafting tour on the Mae Tamann River. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch you proceed to Chiang Rai. Overnight at Chiang Rai. | |
| After breakfast we drive 60 km in northern direction and visit the Border town Mae Sai. This town is the top northern point of Thailand and well known for it's border market, selling products from the neighboring Myanmar (Burma) as well as from China. You will have time to walk over the bustling market and watch people from Burma as well as the hill tribes, buying and selling products at Mae Sai. After lunch we proceed to Chiang Saen, the heart of the Golden Triangle, where you take a long-tail boat ride across the Mekong River, drive along the Burmese side and visit a village at the Lao side. In the afternoon return to Chiang Rai. | |
