Day 01. SAIGON ARRIVAL. Upon arrival, when you leave the airport terminal please look for a tour guide displaying a welcome signboard with your name, you will be met by the guide and transferred to your hotel. Please note that hotel check in time is from 1400. Early check in is subject to hotel availability and with extra fee. The rest of the day is at your leisure to relax, enjoy your hotelís facilities, and explore the city. Included meals: None Accommodation in Saigon
Day 02. FULL DAY SAIGON HIGHLIGHTS VISIT & CU CHI TUNNELS.Enjoy a two hour drive northwest of Saigon, through urbanized areas and typical lush southern Vietnamese countryside, to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. The incredible underground tunnel network was constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters (Viet Cong) during their long struggle for independence. The tunnel complex was initially started in 1948 to protect the Viet Cong guerrillas from the French air and ground sweeps. The tunnels also served as communication routes, storage facilities for food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the American war. A visit to the underground villages will provide a better understanding of the tunnelsí history, the hardship of life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. Return to Saigon for own lunch (own account). Saigon is the countryís commercial centre and, with over nine million inhabitants and five million motorbikes, a city that never sleeps. Despite the well-documented hustle and bustle, Saigon retains its connections with the past. A city tour to admire Saigonís historic landmarks is a must. The landmark Reunification Hall, formerly known as the Presidential Palace - the headquarters of the Saigon Government during the American war. It was towards this modern building that North Vietnamese resistance fighters tanks (Viet Cong) rolled on the morning of April 30, 1975 as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history still fresh in the minds of many. Transfer to Dong Khoi street, or Rue Catinat as it was known in the time of the French occupation, to discover some of the beautiful French colonial buildings built in the late 19th and early 20th century. Appreciate the splendidly restored exteriors of the Opera House and the former Hotel de Ville which are still two of the finest buildings in Saigon. Wander up to the Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin spires based on the original construction from Paris. (It is only possible to visit inside when no service is being performed) Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, designed by the French architect, Gustav Eiffel, before he had risen to fame for the Eiffel Tower. In the city centre, visit Ben Thanh Market where an incredible display of fresh produce is offered. Simply stroll through the market seeing and enjoying the variety of goods for sale. Day 03. FULL DAY MEKONG DELTA. Depart your hotel this morning for a 1.5 hour drive heading south Ben Tre where referred locally as one of the biggest coconut tree orchards in Vietnam. Take in the lush surroundings of rice paddies and fruit farms alongside the highway as you leave behind the busy city. Arrive at the waterfront pier and embark on an enjoyable motor boat excursion, take a glimpse at the Delta scenery, houses built on stilts and local fish farms along the way. Cruising among the islands named Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle and Phoenix Islands. You will stop along the way to discover how Vietnamese farmers work their rice fields and observe daily life of the villagers in the Mekong Delta. You will have the chance to see a family run-business where they make coconut candy directly in front of the pier. Take short horse cart ride along country roads to a tropical orchard garden of a farmer for a tasting session of honey and some exotic fruits and a traditional folk song performance... Engage in a casual chat with your host and stroll through the garden to get an insight into daily farming life. Take some time to enjoy a leisurely walk through the village observing tropical gardens along the way. Continue discovering the Mekong by cruising the small canals and arroyos lined with palm and coconut trees. Continue driving and stop en route at either Vinh Trang pagoda, which was built in 1849 and is one of the first pagodas to incorporate a mixture of Asian and European architectural features or a small, colorful Cao Dai temple which represents a synthesis of world religions. Day 04. SAIGON TO DALAT. Breakfast at hotel and transfer to airport for flight toDalat. Vietnam airlines flight: TBA. On arrival Dalat, transfer to hotel. Afternoon, you will explore Dalatís highlights on tour. Much delight will be taken in an exploration of Dalat's architecture. Start the tour with Truc Lam Monastery of Meditation - one of the largest Zen Meditation study centres in Vietnam, with equally large numbers of nuns and monks. An optional at own expense to reach Truc Lam by a scenic tram ride from a hilltop overlooking Dalat. Continue with a visit to Prenn Waterfall, arguably one of the nicest waterfalls of the region. The waterfalls are situated at an altitude of 1,120 metres and the falls themselves are 15 metres high. The tour also includes Bao Dai's Summer Palace that sits on a hill just outside the main centre. Bao Dai was the Last Emperor of Vietnam and the Palace has been preserved exactly as he left it in 1954. It is a classic example of art deco that is a tourist attraction in itself. Enjoy a walk through Hoa Binh Market, where you will meet ethnic minority people of the region. Your will end the tour at the town's bustling central market, renowned for its fresh vegetables and fruit that is rarely found in a tropical country. Included meals: Breakfast . Day 05. DALAT. Dalat was founded in 1897 when Doctor Alexandre Yersin recommended this area to be developed as a resort town for French dignitaries. Dalat is often referred to as the City of Eternal Spring , due to its mild climate. A trip to Dalat is not complete without a visit to the nearby flower and vegetable gardens. In the morning, drive to Van Thanh hamlet. Stroll along the garden paths to admire the colourful scenery and learn more about the traditional gardening methods. Continue driving and witness the beautiful rural outskirts before you pay a visit to a family-run silk making factory. Discover the entire process from cocoon to garment. Drive back 20km to town, stopping along the way to visit to the Dalat railway station, which was designed with elements of architecture from the East of France. End your trip at XQ embroidery workshop, which is located in a natural setting of hills, streams and gardens. Here you will gain an understanding of the special handicraft that has been kept alive for generations for Dalat. After lunch (own account), you will continue the tour with the former Railway Station (in use only for an optional steam train ride) which is remarkable with its architecture and its old steam locomotive. Day 06. DALAT TO NHATRANG. Drive on a panoramic route through the lush mountain pass to the coastal plain. The highland crops of coffee, tea and vegetables are replaced with that of tobacco, grapes and rice as the road descends into the dry climate. Break the journey in Phan Rang to visit the 13th century Po Klong Jarai Cham Towers perched high on a rocky hill surrounded by prickly pear cacti. Nhatrang, one of the most developed of all the beaches, with its charms derived from a harmonious combination of mountains, island sea and beautiful white sand beaches. Nha Trang has numerous cultural attractions and interesting sites. It is also an excellent place for fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Rest of the day is free at leisure. Day 07. NHATRANG VISIT. A relaxing half-day cruise on the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. Your craft is a simple (but safe and comfortable!) reconverted fishing boat. Off shore from Nha Trang lie numerous islands, some inhabited and many dotted with idyllic fishing villages. We pause at one of these villages and you are free to wander at will. The local people are very friendly and hospitable to visitors. Should you wish, there will be opportunity to swim and snorkel in secluded bays. Return to Nha Trang town for lunch. Day 08. NHATRANG TO HANOI. Breakfast at hotel & transfer to Nhatrang airport for flight to Hanoi. Vietnam airlines flight: TBA. On arrival transfer to hotel. Meet your guide at your hotel and depart on tour to visit Hanoi with the following highlights: The Temple Of Literature, Vietnamís first university. Constructed in 1070, the gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a relaxing glimpse into Vietnamís past. Hanoi history museum - it sits in this wonderful building. The museum displays thousands of selected showpieces that marked the country's historical developments. Enjoy a one hour tour by cyclo, a chauffeur-pedalled tricycle, through Hanoiís Old Quarter, also known as 36 streets . This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore, especially by cyclo, with plenty of photo opportunities all around you. Transfer to the Thang Long theatre for a Water Puppet performance. The art of water puppetry began approximately a thousand years ago, possibly in the flooded rice fields of Vietnam. Puppeteers stand in waist-high water and manipulate their charges in such a way that you canít help but be swept up in the legend being told. Day 09. HANOI TO HALONG BAY. Your early morning departure from your hotel to Halong Bay takes you on a journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta. Observe everyday life of Vietnamese Villages as you see the villagers work the local rice fields, take live pigs to market on bicycles and plough the fields with their large water buffaloes. Arrive in Halong and board a traditional sailing junk. While cruising the emerald green waters sample the regions fresh seafood. Your cruise takes you to the recently discovered Surprise Grotto with its great views, then onto the island with the yawning mouth of Bo Nau Cave. An alternative journey could be to Dau Go Cave to see the famous stalagmites and stalactites of Thien Cung Cave. Enjoy a swim in the emerald waters of Halong Bay at any of islands you visit. Day 10. HALONG BAY TO HANOI & DEPARTURE. On your return to Halong City enjoy a full breakfast (or brunch) as your junk weaves through strange-shaped limestone rock formations which invite comparisons from fighting cocks to dragons and even General de Gaulleís nose!
