Itinerary
Day 01. Christchurch to Mount Cook Start the day with pleasant, easy riding to the Southern Alps via the tranquil Canterbury Plains. Try local jams and cheeses at a country town before climbing over the mountain pass to the glacial ice-blue lakes of Tekapo & Pukaki where we stop to see the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd. At Mount Cook National Park experience one of New Zealand’s most important spiritual, cultural and geographical places at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre. Overnight Mount Cook Village.
Day 02. Mount Cook to Te Anau With the Southern Alps as your backdrop, awesome sweeps and bends on traffic-free roads take you through Mackenzie merino sheep country, You’ll ride over Burkes Pass and down into the Orchard teritory of Cromwell and Alexandra before arriving in Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Overnight Te Anau.
Day 03. Te Anau to Milford Sound Return Milford Sound is known as the Eigth Wonder of the world, mainly because of its size and the natural untouched surroundings. The ride into Milford is magical, it starts with long sweeping bends until you find youself enclosed in a deep valley where the only way is up, you’ll pass through the Homer Tunnel and as you emerge from the darkness you appear at the top of yet another amazing valley which you ride down to reach the main highlight of the day (apart from the ride) which is the cruise on Milford Sound. Day 04. Te Anau to Queenstown This glorious five star ride snakes its way between Lake Wakatipu and the most photographed mountain range ‘The Remarkables’. Time to look for the Kingston Flyer Steam-train before arriving into Queenstown, but not before stopping at the Shotover River for an awesome jet-boating experience! Overnight Queenstown.
Day 05. Queenstown Rest or Ride So much to do! Bungy Jumping, steam-boat-cruise across the lake to a sheep station, cable-car ride to the top of a mountain for a Kiwi Buffet dinner and Maori Haka Cultural experience, white-water rafting, paragliding, bike ride to Paradise or Arrowtown – or simply wander around the town and soak up the buzzing atmosphere of the Adventure Capital of the world – enjoy! Overnight Queenstown.
Day 06. Queenstown to Franz Josef Glacier Today you’ll be riding over the highest tar-sealed road in New Zealand to Wanaka, then through the lush Rainforests of the West Coast via Haast Pass where you’ll experience beautiful lakes, rivers, waterfalls and the Tasman Sea. When you think it can’t get any better, the gigantic snow-covered mountains with their glaciers begin to tower overhead. Overnight Franz Josef Glacier Village
Day 07. Franz Josef Glacier to Punakaiki Snake your way through Jurassic rainforest and alongside the dramatic rugged coastline of the Tasman Sea, still so close to the mountains. A stop at the West Coast township of Hokitika allows you to sample local arts and crafts, then continue along this magnificent coast-line to the Paparoa National Park and the amazing Punakaiki Rocks and blowholes. Day 08. Punakaiki to Hanmer Springs Starting with one of the best coastal rides in the world, meander your way via the traffic-free road to peaceful Hanmer Springs village via the mighty Buller River and the legendary Lewis Pass. Celebrate this most amazing ride with a hot soak in the open-air thermal spring pools or why not splash out and get a massage. Overnight Hanmer Springs.
Day 09. Hanmer Springs to Blenheim Ride an old Maori trail beside the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges that lead all the way to the Pacific Ocean. This afternoon you’ll be stopping at Kaikoura to sample local delicacies such as crayfish and scallops, and get up close to seals. The highlight of today, however, is an opportunity to see the mighty whales via a superb adrenalin-pumping boat ride out to sea. A final sprint over the hills through the Marlborough vineyards to Blenheim completes yet another perfect day. Overnight Blenheim
Day 10. Blenheim to Greytown via Wellington It’s just a short 20min ride to the port of Picton for a wonderful 3 hour ferry-boat cruise across the Cook Strait to the North Island and Wellington, New Zealand’s capital City. Spend some time at the Te Papa National Museum before riding over the challenging Rimutaka Hills to the historical township of Greytown. Overnight Greytown
Day 11. Greytown to Napier Heading north via the best biking route, the welcome leg-stretch at the Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre and Bird Sanctuary will delight animal lovers and coffee drinkers amongst you. However, it won’t be long before you’re cruising along Marine Parade in Napier, nowhere else other than here can you see such a variety of buildings in the styles of the 1930s - Stripped Classical, Spanish Mission, and above all Art Deco, the style of the 20th Century. Day 12. Napier to Rotorua The Thermal Highway to Rotorua provides a wonderful, easy day’s riding. You’ll stop at Lake Taupo and see the iconic Huka Falls, where 220,000 litres per second of crystal clear water crash into a turbulent pool 11 metres below. Perfect terrain for Jetboating! The scenic highlights between Taupo and Rotorua will not disappoint as you traverse the unusual, volcanic geography combined with large pine forest plantations. Overnight Rotorua
Day 13. Rotorua Rest or Ride Rotorua, on the Volcanic Plateau, has one of the world’s most lively fields of geothermal activity. Visit skyrocketing geysers, hot springs and boiling mud pools, enjoy a Hangi Feast and Maori Cultural Performance, or treat yourself to an indulgent spa therapy. If adventure is your thing, Rotorua has many attractions to get the adrenalin flowing such as Skydiving, Luging and Zorbing. Overnight Rotorua
Day 14. Rotorua to Coromandel Peninsula The Coromandel Peninsula provides a mecca for motorcyclists with twists, turns, convoluted hills and pretty bays providing a challenging variety of corner-carving delights. The sea-side townships of Mt Mounganui and Whitianga provide light refreshment before the fun really begins! Overnight Whitianga
Day 15. Coromandel to Auckland Enjoy delightful narrow and twisty bends with ancient Pohutakawa tree-lined beaches as you continue your journey along the Pacific Coastal Highway around the Coromandel Peninsular. Continuing north towards Auckland City of Sails, you’ll be guided past the iconic Sky-tower, over the Harbour Bridge and safely to your perfectly located lodgings. Overnight Auckland - End of Tour
