Transportation to and from the fishing from Panama City can be arranged and ice, first class fishing gear (conventional & spinning, not fly fishing gear) are provided. As a courtesy, since Panama is short on conveniences, I also can provide sodas, bottled water and sandwiches for the fishing charter. We can meet at 0500 at some hotels in Panama City or at the Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center or at 0600 at the launch point. All you need to bring for any of the above charters is a hat, camera & sunscreen as well as any favorite lures or fishing rods/equipment you might want to use.

At the Bayano River the fish are much bigger (tarpon 20 to 80 pounds and snook 5 to 50 pounds) but the fishing is more demanding so catching 2 to 5 fish a day is average if the angler is experienced. These much sought after tropical gamefish are particularly hard to hook, fight and catch compared to offshore pelagic species such as billfish and tuna that are caught mostly trolling using heavy tackle. On the Bayano River and in its estuaries trolling is sometimes okay but sight casting to feeding fish and blind casting along the banks with spinning gear or fly rods is most effective. Lure/fly selection and presentation are key to inducing a strike while deft rod handling techniques ensure a magnificent on the water photograph. The Bayano River is a huge estuary zone (imagine a mini everglades) which encompasses vast mature mangrove forests near the mouth, brackish border jungle further inland and then as the river winds its way towards the Bayano Lake mostly cattle pastures and degraded jungle. Various rare and interesting tropical wetlands wildlife species (especially unusual birds) are often sighted on fishing charters along the entire length of the river.
