Itinerary
Day 01. Pick up from the Airport in Skopje and transfer to Hotel in Skopje followed with a 3 hour sightseeing tour of the capital city that will include: Skopje Fortress, Church of St.Spas, The Holocaust Museum (optional), The Stone Bridge, The 30 meter high Statue of Alexander the Great, The old Turkish Bazaar and the Monument House of Mother Teresa (She was born in Skopje). In between we will have free time for lunch and for shopping. Dinner and overnight in Hotel in Skopje.
Day 02. After Breakfast in the Hotel we will start the tour with the Beautiful Canyon of Matka, where we will have a magnificent boat ride on the Artificial Treska Lake (Vivid Nature). From there, we will continue to the city of Ohrid where we will have a sightseeing tour that will include: The Church of Holy Mother Perivleptus, The Ohrid Samoil Fortress, The Ancient Theatre, St. Klement of Plaosnik Church, St. Sophia and St. John of Kaneo Church. From there we will take a short boat ride on the Ohrid Lake to the City Center where we will have free time for lunch and for sightseeing of the Ohrid's main shopping and pedestrian walkway. Overnight in Hotel in Ohrid. Notification: In Canyon Matka, instead of the normal boat ride on the Matka lake we can go for a longer ride to one of the deepest underwater caves in Europe called Vrelo with almost 200m of depth. The part of the cave that is open for visitors has lights and holding rails.
Day 03. After Breakfast, we will continue to the Prespa Lake (Second biggest Natural Lake in Macedonia after the Ohrid Lake) and the Fishermen village of Stenje. In the village we will stop at Hotel and Restaurant Riva where we will have a rest for toilet, cafe, refreshment drinks or an unique opportunity to taste their sweat or salty pancakes. Next, we continue to St.Naum (Located on the Ohrid Lake) via the National Park of Galicica. At the Parks highest peak (reachable with our vehicle) we will stop for a breathtaking view from where we can observe the lake Ohrid and we will leave the view of Prespa lake behind. We head on the road to visit the so called Bay of the Bones - Water Museum, which is a model of a Prehistoric Fishing Settlement located on the Ohrid Lake. In our next stop, St.Naum (Which is on to the border with Albania), we will have a boat ride on the springs of River Drim and entry in the St.Naum Monastery. At the end we will have a late lunch at the beautiful Restaurant of Ostrovo with live music performance while we eat. Overnight in Ohrid. Notification: In Galicica National Park, there is a possibility that we can hike for one hour (one way) to a certain place from where we can view the both lakes at once, the Prespa and the Ohrid lake.
Day 04. After Breakfast, we will start a village Eco tour that includes the villages of Recica (Ohrid Region) where we will visit the so called Washing Machines , a natural cleaning of carpets and other textile by using mountainous spring water and Eco detergents. From there we will continue to the village of Kuratica (5km from Recica village) where we will have a sightseeing and brief history of the village. After the sightseeing, in the village, we may purchase local products such as ajvar (Made of red peppers), forest fruit jam, homemade wine and brandy, fresh forest mushrooms, fresh forest fruit juice and other. It is important that all of these products are organic and home made. The village of Podmocani (Prespa region) is our next stop, where we will visit the Ethnology Museum a place with Authentic Macedonian Folklore Dresses and other artefacts. The Museum has a collection of over 200 Folklore dresses from all over Macedonia. Next stop is the village of Kurbinovo where we will stop for picnic in the nature to have lunch on the front porch of the Church of St. George. Perfect view of the Prespa lake from the spot. Back to Ohrid for overnight.
Day 05. Todayís day is reserved for the famous city of Krusevo, which at ones was a Republic in 1903 acquired from the Ottomans and lasted only for 10days. At this mountainous city we will visit the Memorial house dedicated to our very popular singer Tose Proeski (died in a car accident in 2008), who is originally from this city followed with sightseeing that will include the Church of St. John with its famous wood carving, the Museum of the Krusevo Republic (with excellent collection of weapon arsenal from the Ottoman time, from the early beginning of the 20th c.) and several craft shops where we will be explained how they make their products (wine barrels, coffee pots, pitchers, kettles and so on). In the city we will have also a close interaction with the authentically built houses and its citizens. Lunch in one of the local restaurants with traditional Macedonian cuisine will be served in between. Transfer back to Ohrid for overnight.
Day 06. After Breakfast we will continue to the nearby city of Prilep (Famous for Tobacco production) where we will enter The Tobacco Museum followed with a short sightseeing of the center and the old bazaar of the city as well. Than, we continue to the city of Bitola (second biggest city in Macedonia where we will visit the Archaeological Site of Heraklea Lyncaestis (Birth place of Filip the 2ndís wife, Olympia), Bitola City Museum and free time for lunch and sightseeing of the center of the city itself. Transfer back to Ohrid for overnight.
Day 07. After Breakfast we will continue to the village of Vevcani (30min drive) where we will see the famous Vevcani Springs as well as their authentic style of built houses and a chance to have a closer interaction with the locals. Next, we go to sightsee the city of Struga (The second biggest city on the Ohrid Lake) where we will have a free time for shopping and lunch. From there we will continue to the villages of Kalista and Radozda located on the Ohrid Lake by the Albanian border. In Kalista we will enter the church of St. Marry and in Radozda we will enter the Cave Church dedicated to St. George, followed with 30min sightseeing of the village. After we finish the sightseeing of the village we will seat in one of the 7 fish restaurants in the village, located by the lake, to taste the most famous Ohrid Trout and Ohrid Eal. This will be considered a late lunch and early dinner, so after we are finished eating we go back to the city of Ohrid where we will have a one hour evening boat ride along the city shore with cd music and one free drink. Unique chance to experience Ohrid by night and to relax. Overnight in Ohrid. Note: The lunch in a fish restaurant in Radozda village and the evening boat ride on the Ohrid lake are optionals.
Day 08. After Breakfast, we will continue to the National Park of Mavrovo located on the Mountain Bistra. On the way there we will drive by the Debar Lake and the Canyons of the River Radika (Amazing Nature). We will stop for a 30min rest for toilet and soft drink in a restaurant on the beautiful Debar Lake. After that, via the city of Debar we will enter the Monastery St. John the Baptist. Our next stop is the Waterfall of Duf which is located in an amazing natural surrounding and is 20min walk from the place where we will leave the vehicle. From there we continue to the village of Mavrovo and the artificial Mavrovo lake where we will stop for a break and will be given chance to have lunch at the various nearby restaurant options. Transfer to hotel in Skopje for dinner and overnight. Note: Visit of the waterfalls is not encouraged for elderly people in the group; therefore, if we have such group than we can add the female Monastery of St. John the Triumphant instead.
Day 09. After Breakfast we will go to visit the biggest Archaeological site in Macedonia Stobi . From there we go to the small city of Demir Kapija (In Turkish language it means Iron Gate) where we will stop at the winery Popova Kula to sight see it including its wine yards and wine cellars. Next, we will have a lunch with wine sampling. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Skopje.
Day 10. After breakfast in the Hotel transfer to the Airport in Skopje, which is 18km from the city. End of the tour.
