Day 01. Whitehorse Individual arrivals of participants to Whitehorse. Welcome to Canada痴 Yukon! A meet and greet at the airport will be provided by the local German-speaking tour guide. This afternoon, we値l have a brief pretour meeting to get to know your fellow travelers and ask any last minute questions before beginning the journey with a short drive over the coastal mountains to Skagway. Scenic attractions include colourful Emerald Lake, renown for its brillian green colour, Carcross Desert known locally as the 都mallest desert in the world - and of course you can also marvel at the Emerald Lake. The route continues through the picturesque mountains of Northern British Columbia before arriving in Skagway. Known as the Gateway to Klondike during the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, Skagway retains its frontier character. False-fronted buildings, wooden boardwalks and saloons with bat-wing doors make strolling a delight. We suggest a visit to the famous Red Onion Saloon, once a thriving brothel, this evening. (Overnight accommodation in Skagway).
Day 02. Skagway / Inside Passage This morning we値l board the Alaska Marine Highway ferry for the journey along the Inside Passage. As the ferry winds its way through the narrow straits and fjords of the strait, you will get a good impression of the unique coastal landscape of Northern British Columbia and Alaska. Cascading rivers and emerald rainforests nourish a wide variety of wildlife. Have your camera ready as there is always a good chance to view wildlife. With a little luck you will see sea otters, sea lions and even whales. (Cabin accommodation on the ship).
Day 03. Inside Passage The journey continues by to the south along the Inside Passage today. The coast is home to 2 bear species; the grizzly and the black, and the Queen Charlottes also are the home of the Spirit Bear, an all-white sub-species of the black bear. The Spirit Bear is revered by the coastal First Nations people and a sighting is considered a sign of great fortune. Often spotted soaring above the steep fjords is the national bird of the United States, the great bald eagle. Travelling by ferry provides a wonderful vantage from which to explore this roadless region. (Cabin accommodation on the ship).
Day 04. Prince Rupert - Smithers Arriving in the fishing and container port city of Prince Rupert we値l disembark the ferry and begin our exploration of the Canadian west. The area around Terrace is world famous with sport fishermen for its giant king (Chinook) salmon. We値l also visit the Ksan Indian Village with its totem poles and long houses, before continuing along the picturesque river reaches of the Skeena River. Just outside Smithers we致e planned a stop at Moricetown Falls; a canyon where the local First Nation people fish for salmon. Smithers is a small, rustic town that has been heavily influenced by Europeans, who have found the laidback atmosphere and surrounding mountain ranges a nice contrast to the overcrowded cities of Europe. The steep mountains have given Smithers the nickname of 鏑ittle Switzerland, one of several in the Canadian west! (Hotel accommodation in Smithers)
