This multiple-day tour brings you right to the very heart of some of the most spectacular fjord sceneries Norway has to offer, the Nærøyfjord World Heritage Site. Mountains up to 1600 meters with numerous cascading waterfalls plunge straight into the narrow fjords and make a perfect location for backcountry hikes and exceptional nature experiences off the beaten track. The different walks and hikes on the tour will lead you to some of the most magnificent fjord views imaginable!

The Great Fjord Walk has a lot to offer with several unique fjord cruises and overnight stays at remote and charming mountain farms, now transferred to popular guesthouses serving local specialities. As this area has no road connection, we need boat transportation to get around and to the trailheads.

This trip suits everyone with some experience in backcountry hiking and normal fitness to walk some few hours a day and to do the described ascents and decents. Some of the hikes require better fitness than others, but on these days you will be presented with some options or alternative walks.
Join us on the ultimate way to experience and get empowered by the Norwegian fjords and nature!

The terrain: On this tour you will meet a great variety of terrains, from narrow steep mountain paths to partly uneven pastures and fields, wet marshland, gravel roads and stony mountain terrain.

Day 01. Fly to Bergen. On arrival Flesland Airport, Bergen, you catch the airport express bus for Bergen Railway Station. Our recommended hotel Grand Terminus is located just across the street, but there are numerous hotels and guesthouses in this area.
Day 02. This morning you catch the train for Voss leaving Bergen at 08:40 am. By arrival Voss at 09:53 am you will be met by your guide for the next four days and straight after you head for the Nærøyfjord by bus. After a short fjord cruise, you start your 5 kilometers walk along pristine shores on the historic Royal postal path from the mid 1600. This path is only for walking, there are no roads in this area. After finishing this walk, you will travel by boat to Stigen, a dramatically situated and historic mountain farm that now offers accommodation. You walk the 300 meters ascent to the farm on a spectacular path. Walking time: 3 hours
Day 03. After a good breakfast, we start our first walk today to a mountain situated close to the farm. We do an ascent of 380 meters to 680 m.a.s.l. This mountain has a central location in the World Heritage Site and gives you a very good and memorable view. After lunch on the farm, you descend to the fjord again and will be transported by boat to the charming farm village of Dyrdal. This was once a lively community in the fjord, but is now abandoned though being lively during the summer. Here in Dyrdal we start our second walk of the day, a 4 km walk with an ascent of 400 m on a gravel road going up to Drægo. This is another remote mountain farm where we will spend the next two nights. Walking time: 5 hours
Day 04. Today we do the most challenging hike of the tour going up to a mountain top rising nearly 1200 meters above the fjord. This is one of the mountains offering the most dramatic fjord view in the whole area and this might be well worth the challenge. As this is a quite hard and long walk, we offer an alternative and less challenging walk to some summer farms in the area. Here you can enjoy the day among grazing sheep and goats and feel the fresh and clean mountain air. You can even take a swim in the lake. Walking time: 8 hours (peak), 4 hours (summer farm)
Day 05. Today we will walk back to the fjord by foot to enter our fjord cruise back to Gudvangen. Here a bus will be waiting to bring you safely back to Voss where you say goodbye to your guide and enter the train for Bergen. After arrival Bergen at 15:52 pm, you are just in time to catch the evening plane back home. Walking time: 4 hours
