Day 01. Introduction to the ecocity and the environmental projects coordinated by the Rio Muchacho team in Bahia. Visit Lookout and Ecopapel (paper recycling project). Travel to Rio Muchacho. Lunch and swim at the beach in Canoa en route. Accommodation. Orientation & short tour.
Day 02. Morning: 8H30-12H00 Spanish classes. (3 hours classes with a half hour break). Afternoon: tour of the farm permaculture and organic farming methods, recycling systems, tropical crops. After dinner: make chocolate from the harvest.
Day 03. Morning: Spanish classes. Afternoon: farm activities. After dinner video : The power of community, Cuba managing peak oil though organic agriculture and other alternatives.
Day 04. Morning: Spanish classes. Afternoon: walk to giant fig tree learn local flora and fauna, make tagua key rings (palm seeds called vegetable ivory).
Day 05. Morning: Spanish classes. Afternoon: farm activities. Video: Dirt.
Day 06. Morning: farm activities. Afternoon: principles of organic farming and how to put them in practice, baņo negro (local clay mineral mask).
Day 07. Free day at the beach (optional surf classes).
Day 08. free day at the beach (optional 10-17 km beach walk).
Day 09. Morning: Principles of permaculture make a spoon out of gourd (mate). Afternoon: farm activities After dinner: roast and prepare coffee. Video: Global Gardener (permaculture).
Day 10. Morning: composting methods, walk to lookout, observe the state of the forest from the top of the hill Afternoon: class, understanding the local culture, composting practical (urban and larger scale composting).
Day 11. Breakfast, depart for Bahia. Visit Galapagos turtle tour the town in tricycles (ecotaxis). Lunch. Visit Regional Archaeological Museum. Return to Rio Muchacho. Video: The future of food.
Day 12. Hike to the forest to see the monkeys, take a typical lunch wrapped in banana leaves. Swim in water fall on the way back.
Day 13. Morning: visit the environmental school, activity/ games with the children at the school (students should have an activity ready) Afternoon: farm activities. Video: Shrimp farming, threatening the environment.
Day 14. Morning: milk cow and make cheese, make rings from palm seed fish river shrimp. Afternoon: T shirt painting and free time. (optional: bring a T shirt to paint message from Rio Muchacho). Meal prepared by the group. Camp fire by the river.
Day 15. Breakfast. Leave the farm and travel to Portoviejo for a trip to Isla Corazon (community, tourism project in the mangrove forest). Learn about the shrimp industry and how it has affected the mangrove forest. Lunch. Return to Bahia. Farewell.
