Day 01. We will pick you up from Durban International Airport around midday and drive to Didima Camp in the Drakensberg Mountains, where we will be staying for the first three nights of the tour. The drive will take approximately three hours. Didima Camp is a unique blend of ancient cultural heritage and modern luxury, nestled within the spectacular mountain setting of Cathedral Peak. Once you have had a chance to settle in and freshen up, our first evening will consist of welcome drinks and dinner.
Day 02. After a leisurely breakfast, we will start off the day with our first photography workshop. This workshop will last the rest of the morning. After lunch we will head out with our cameras and tripods and practise what we have learnt by capturing some beautiful landscape and waterfall images. After the walk we will return to our cottages and have time to relax before meeting again for dinner. Optional: If you are not too tired and the weather allows, after dinner we can take some star trail shots.
Day 03. Day three will start with an early sunrise shoot, followed by breakfast and a morning walk to either Doreen Falls or Blue Pools to capture some more amazing landscape photographs. The afternoon will be taken up with a photography workshop and you will then have time to freshen up before dinner. Afterwards, you will have the evening free to yourselves. You could relax in your cottages, enjoy a couple of drinks at Didima’s friendly bar, or if you are really keen, edit some of your many new photographs or attempt a few more star trail shots!
Day 04. Day four will start with an optional sunrise shoot, for those who love early rises! After breakfast, we will drive up to Mike's Pass, a high mountain pass from where you are able to witness the panoramic beauty of the Cathedral Peak mountain area. After the drive we will leave Didima Camp, having lunch on route to St Lucia, a relaxing town on the East Coast and home to iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The drive will take approximately 5-6 hours upon arrival we will head out to dinner together at one of St Lucia’s fabulous restaurants, before retiring to bed.
Day 05. Today we will start the day with a photography workshop before heading off on a game drive through iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the beautiful Cape Vidal. A stunning beach where you will have the chance to swim, snorkel and relax whilst we prepare a traditional South African braai. After lunch we will drive back through the park to see what wildlife are out grazing. The evening will be free for you to enjoy one of St Lucia’s fabulous restaurants
Day 06. Today we will be focusing on portrait photography. We will spend the day visiting a real Zulu village located 14kms down a dirt road from the N2. The community are extremely welcoming and friendly and depending on the day of the week, we will either be visiting the crèche and schools or attending a local church service, as well as the sangoma (traditional healer). After returning to St Lucia you will have the evening free to visit one of St Lucia’s fabulous restaurants.
Day 07. This morning we will be leaving St Lucia, but first we will go on the Hippo and Croc Boat Cruise. The cruise is a fabulous opportunity to photograph a few of the 900+ hippos and crocs living in Lake St Lucia. After lunch we will head to KwaZulu-Natal’s renowned “Big 5” game reserve, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. We will be staying in Mpila Camp tonight and you will have time to relax before a photography workshop, which will be followed by dinner
Day 08. Day eight kicks off early with a sunrise game drive - the best time of the day to observe wildlife! We will have breakfast either in one of the hides or at a picnic spot during the drive. We will then head to Hilltop Camp where we will be staying for the final two nights! After lunch there will be a photography workshop, followed by a sunset game drive. The evening is then yours to enjoy, with dinner being served in the lodge.
Day 09. Our last full day starts with a sunrise game drive! After returning you will be free to edit your images or simply recharge yours and your camera’s batteries! Our final photography feedback session will be in the afternoon before our last sunset game drive. That evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner
Day 10. There is no game drive this morning so after a leisurely start and an enjoyable breakfast, we will leave the park and depart for Durban International Airport in time for you to catch a mid-afternoon flight. The drive to Durban International Airport will take approximately 3-3.5 hours.
