Itinerary
Day 01. Arrival at TOCUMEN International Airport. Transfer to hotel and accommodation at ”Torres del Alba” aparthotel, breakfast included. Evening free for optional activities.
Day 02. Breakfast. Starting with a visit to the Miraflores Locks where you will appreciate the amazing sight of the handling of ships crossing the Panama Canal, from and to the Pacific Ocean. Sightseeing of the former Albrook Fortress, now a beautiful residential and commercial area. After that, Balboa and Amador currently the most developed area, a tourist attraction and the location of the administrative building. Sightseeing of the old city, the San Felipe neighborhood and walk in the first Spanish city in the Pacific, the ruins of the ancient city, the Independence Square, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Hotel Central, Panama Canal Museum, the Bolivar Square, “San Francis of Assisi” Church, the National Theater, walk to the Arcs Boulevard and the France Square where you can appreciate a panoramic view of the city and the Panama Canal gate. Then you will continue to Bella Vista commercial area located in the banks sector of the city and Punta Paitilla, a developing area. Back to the hotel. Evening free for optional activities.
Day 03. Breakfast. Departure to Gatun Lake to take the “Gatun Safari”, an adventure tour in the jungle. Starting with a sighting of vessels as they cross the Canal from a boat on the waters of Gatun Lake, we will continue with the interaction with rainforest animals like monkeys, sloths, toucans, crocodiles and many other species. In a floating platform, you will be able to enjoy fishing local species (tarpon, snook, etc) swimming and kayaking as part of the afternoon activities. A typical lunch will be served aboard the platform. This full day adventure is a combination of Ecotourism and an upclose look at the Canal and its expansion works. Return to the hotel.
Day 04. Departure to the Tour of the Emberá Community, the most important aboriginal community in the area. Transfer to the Chagres National Park, where we expect a piragua, a typical boat of the early inhabitants of the Panamanian jungle, that will take us through the Chagres River, with plenty of sightings of local birds and mammals to an spectacular waterfall, only reachable after a walk across crystal clear water springs and natural paths. The piraguas will be steered by genuine members of the Embera tribe. After a refreshing bath, our journey takes us to the Embera indigenous community, in which they will welcome us and share their dances, music, customs and traditions, also an excellent opportunity to buy crafts directly from the local artists. We will have the chance to tour ecological trails, waterfalls and enjoy a typical meal of fish and fresh fruits. Return to the hotel.
Day 05. Breakfast. TRAIN TOUR TO COLON. VISIT TO THE GATUN LOCKS AND INTERESTING PLACES OF THIS CITY. Hotel pick-up and transfer to take a train heading for Colón City, a historical tour on the first transcontinental train, from 1855, the rail way crossing over the Panama Canal, lakes and rainforests .Arrival at the local station and take a bus and guided visit to The Gatun Locks. After the Canal experience, visit to San Lorenzo Fortress and Sherman Marina. Optional lunch at the local restaurant. Return to the hotel.
Day 06. Breakfast. Departure to PINEAPPLES PLANTATION TOUR. Arrival in "Las Tres Marias", welcoming by the staff. Walk to the demonstrative plots (50 meters from the packing plant), where visitors will enjoy the whole process from planting to harvesting, based on explanations from the specialized staff. The visit continues to the "Las Tres Marias" Packing Plant, where they will receive an specialized explanation, while enjoying the whole processes of selection, packing and storage of the fruits chosen for exporting. Inmediatly afterwards, we will go onboard a tractor wagon, heading for La Punta, on the shore of Gatun Lake. On route, the visitors will see on both sides of the road the pineapple plantations, typical farmers´houses, a small teak forest and other attractive samples of the flora and fauna of the region. Stops can be made at any spot during the transfer for pictures. Arrival in La Punta, with a unique view on Gatun Lake. Tasting of fresh "Dulce María" pineapple slices and juice. Box lunch included. A freshly collected pineapple from the plantation will be given to each visitor as a courtesy. Boat tour and transfer from "La Punta" pier to the docks in Arenosa village. Return to the hotel.
Day 07. Breakfast. Visit to Anton Valley, leaving the hotel to see the picturesque small town of Valle Anton. There, the visitors will enjoy an excellent weather, surrounded by woods, with exotic flora and fauna, "El Nispero" Natural Park, the beautiful waterfall "El Chorro del Macho", followed by a walk through natural paths in the woods to reach the lookout point from where you can take unique photos. The tour finishes with a visit to the craft market and "Pozo del Agua". Optional lunch at a local restaurant. Return to the hotel.
Day 08. Very early in the morning (05:00 hrs) Pick up at the lobby hotel, departure to San Blas, transfer by car for 2 hours, to reach Barsuko Pier at the Kuna Yala region, second most important aboriginal community in Panama. From there you will board a Cayuco boat for 1 hour to reach UKUTUPU island. During the journey you will see a great variety of birds and the typical vegetation. During your stay, you can appreciate the native culture (Kuna) and at the same time enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Panama. Accommodation in the island at UKUTUPU lodge, a typical and rustic Kuna construction of thatched roof and wood on tilts. Includes, 3 daily meals and 2 local tours at the nearby islands.
Day 09. Day at leisure in San Blas to enjoy the local tours in the afternoon return to Panama City. Night at Ukutupu Lodge.
Day 10. Morning at leisure in San Blas in the afternoon return to Panama City. Night at the Torres del Alba Hotel.
Day 11. Depart to TOCUMEN International Airport to take flight back
