Itinerary
Day 01. Arrival Sofia Airport. Pick up the rent-a-car and departure to Koprivshtitsa museum town, some 110 km away from Sofia. Check in at a traditional family-run 3* hotel. Appr. mileage 110 km.
Day 02. Day to explore Koprivshtitsa, Troyan Monastery, Oreshak village and departure to Veliko Turnovo the Medieval capital city of Bulgaria, picturesquely located on 4 hills above Yantra river. Overnight at a 3* hotel. Appr. mileage 190 200 km.
Day 03. Day in Veliko Turnovo and its region visit Arbanassi museum village, located just 10 km away, possible visit to Liaskovets winery which is another 10 km away, the monasteries around Transfiguration, Petropavlovski, etc. Second overnight at the same hotel. Appr. mileage 40 - 50 km
Day 04. Departure south, crossing the central and most beautiful part of the Balkan mountains to Kazanluk the centre of the Valley of Roses and further south to Plovdiv. Possible stops en route to Drianovo Monastery, Etura Open Air Ethnographic complex, Shipka memorial Church, etc. Plovdiv is the 2nd largest Bulgarian city, once capital city of Philip the 2nd of Macedonia the father of Alexander the Great. Visit the Old Plovdiv architectural reserve with the Ancient Amphitheatre, the Ethographic museum, Hindlian house, the many art galleries, antique shops, small cafes and restaurants, etc. Overnight in Plovdiv. Appr. mileage 220-250 km.
Day 05. From Plovdiv continue to Bansko museum town, located at the foothills of Pirin mountain and National park, included in UNESCO list of world heritage. Afternoon to relax at a spa hotel. Appr. mileage 170 km.
Day 06. Day to enjoy the spa facilities of the hotel and the region of Bansko and Pirin mountain, or take a day trip to Melnik the smallest Bulgarian town, declared museum and famous for its wines. Possible visit of Kordopulov house and its wine cellar and Rojen 9th c monastery not far. Return to Bansko for second overnight. Appr. mileage 220 km
Day 07. Departure to Sofia. En route visit Rila Monastery UNESCO site. Check in at the hotel in Sofia and return the rent-a-car. Appr. mileage 220 km
