Itinerary
Day 01. Arrival in Sofia. Transfer from the airport and panorama tour to see Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, St. Sofia 6th c Basilica, Parliament Square, the National Theatre and the old City garden, the Presidency, the ruins of Ancient Serdica, St. George Rotunda. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 02. Morning tour to visit the National Museum of History as introductory to the tour of Bulgaria and Boyana Church UNESCO site. Lunch independent. Afternoon to Rila Monastery UNESCO site. Return to Sofia. Dinner with folklore performance and overnight.
Day 03. Departure to Koprivshtitsa museum town. Tour to visit some of the National Revival houses. Lunch independent. Proceed via Beklemeto mountain pass to the small town of Troyan. Check in at the hotel. Tour to the nearby Troyan Monastery – the 3rd largest in Bulgaria and Oreshak exhibit of peoples’ arts and crafts. Demonstration of traditional pottery and weaving or woodcarving. Return to Troyan. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 04. Departure to Arbanassi museum village. Tour and independent lunch. Proceed to Veliko Turnovo – the Mediaeval capital city of Bulgaria located on 4 hills above Yantra river. Check in at the hotel. Afternoon tour to visit Tsarevets Royal Hill with the fortress. Walk along Samovodska Charshia – the street of crafts, workshops and antique shops in Veliko Turnovo. If time permits and interested - visit Petropavlovski Monastery nearby. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Veliko Turnovo.
Day 05. Departure from Veliko Turnovo to Plovdiv. Cross the Central and highest part of the Balkan mountains ( the mountain, which gave its name to the Balkan peninsula ). Short stops en route to Shipka memorial church and Kazanluk – for independent lunch and visit of Goliama Kosmatka Thracian tomb ( 5th - 3rd c BC ). Early afternoon arrival in Plovdiv. Check in at the hotel. Walking tour of the Old Plovdiv Architectural Reserve to visit the Ancient Roman Amphitheatre, the Ethnographic museum ( the so-called Royal House ) and St. Constantine and Helena Church. Dinner at Puldin 5* restaurant – built above old Roman ruins. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06. : Breakfast. Transfer Plovdiv – Sofia. Free time or continue with the tour of Sofia if time permits. Transfer to Sofia Airport. / Possibility to add an extra night in Sofia /
