Itinerary
Day 01. Leaving Luanda at 6:00am we follow the main road east in the direction of Dondo. There we stop for a visit to the “Pousada de Cambambe” and if possible we take a visit to the Cambambe Hydro electric Dam. We then carry on to the “garden capital city” of Kwanza Norte province “N´dalatando” where following a city tour we stop for a picnic in the Botanical Gardens. We refuel and continue to Malange via Lucala and Cacuso, arriving at our hotel in time for the evening meal. Accommodation: Hotel Palácio Regina. Meals included – picnic lunch and dinner.
Day 02. After breakfast we set off from Malange City for Kalandula Falls. We will make a short diversion on the way out to pass by the Quéssua Mission. We continue through Lombe and turn off north towards the majestic Kalandula Falls on the Lucala River, (a rival to Victoria Falls in height). The trip will take about two hours in good weather. At the Falls we will have a picnic and also the opportunity to bathe in the waters and take magnificent photographs. For the more energetic, we can take a group down into the valley at the bottom of the falls it takes about 40 minutes to reach and tough walking shoes or boots are required as it is a very steep climb and can be muddy extreme caution is required. We will return to Malange we aim to get back to the hotel for about 7 p.m Accommodation: Hotel Palácio Regina **** Meals included – breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner
Day 03. After breakfast we set off on a short Malange City Tour, We will stop off for a quick visit to the “Casa do Gaiato” where we should have the opportunity to see the preparation of their morning mass and hear the locals singing their prayers in Kimbundu language in the small chapel. We then set our GPS controls for the heart of Pungo Andongo (Pedras Negras, or Black Rocks) via Cacuso. The journey will take about 3 hours with a picnic lunch amongst the fascinating rocks of Pungo Andongo, where we will also be able to see the famous footprint of Rainha N’Ginga as well as climbing one of the main rocks for a spectacular view of the surrounding country side including Capanda Dam.We anticipate leaving Pedras Negras for Luanda at about 3p.m. and reaching home late evening. Meals included – breakfast, picnic lunch.
