Kourou - From the original village of 600 inhabitants 4o years ago, Kourou has evolved into a town of approximately 20.000 people; about one third of the population is European, mainly from France. Kourou is the largest town in French Guiana, with the famous Guiana Space station at is very core. Fringed by tropical palm trees along a sandy stretch of Kourou Beach.

The first activity, you can enjoy a guided tour by scheduled catamaran to the Iles du Salut (Salvation Islands), a small archipelago of volcanic Islands situated approximately 6 miles (11 kilometers) off the coast of French Guiana. The Islands of Royal, Devils, and St. Joseph were the headquarters of the penal colony.

Royal Island was last used as prison in 1946, yet many old buildings from penal administration are still standing. The old Commandant’s house has been restored as a museum by the French administration and exhibits many historical documents relating to this period. Part of the buildings, for example the guards’houses have been renovated
as part of the Inn providing accommodation for visitors. The old Officer Mess is now the Restaurant, with views over
Devil’s Island itself.

A guided tour of the Island typically includes the museum, main buildings, the children cemetery, convicts building,
guards house and the jail cells. From the Royal Island transfer by boat to Saint Joseph Island which accommodated
the penal reclusion cell, for the most dangerous prisoners, or those who tried to escape.
Devil’s Island itself was restricted to political prisoners only, such as Alfred Dreyfuss. Acces was difficult during
its operation and is now strictly forbidden. Devil’s Island can be viewed from both St. Joseph and Royal Island.

Itinerary
Day 01. Arrival Suriname. The Suriname partner will transfer you to the courtyard by Marriott Hotel (5*) for 2 overnights double or single occupation included breakfast & service charge. Welcome dinner.
Day 02. Paramaribo City tour (ca 4 hours). Overnight Courtyard by Marriott Hotel (B)
Day 03. Paramaribo – Matawai (flight to the jungle) by small aircraft we will flight today to the interior where we will live with Maroon in their house (B/L/D). Overnight, village called Vertrouw in Maroon houses.
Day 04. Matawai discover. After breakfast we will start a guided jungle hike trip with local hunters for 6 hours. A spectacular and typical day. Overnight Vertrouw (B/L/D).
Day 05. Matawai (Fishing day by dugout canoe)
Day 06. Matawai – Paramaribo (app. 50 min. flight). After breakfast we will start the departure by dugout canoe to the airstrip for the flight back to Paramaribo. Overnight Courtyard by Marriott (B/L).
Day 07. Commewijne plantation tour (day trip). After breakfast the guide will pick you up by private bus to formal plantation Leonsberg from where you will make the departure by a tent boat to visit several old plantation in the Commewijne River. Overnight, Courtyard by Marriott (B/L)
Day 08. Paramaribo – Albina – Galibi. After breakfast the guide will pick you up by private bus for the approximately 4 hours ride to Albina located in the border district Marowijne & Frans Guyanna. From here we will start the boat journey to Galibi. Overnight in the Amerindian village Langamankondre in twee and more person rooms (B/L/D).
Day 09. Galibi explore. After breakfast you will make a guided village walk for your orientation. After the diner you we will start a night boat journey to the coast for spotting the Sea Turtles on their nest. Overnight Langamankondre (B/L/D)
Day 10. Galibi – Saint –Laurent-du-Maroni (B). This Morning after breakfast, transfer by boat along the coast towards the French Guiana border to Sint- Laurent. After the Hotel check in you will enjoy a guided mini city tour of St. Laurent du Maroni with a visit of the Church in Iracoubo by private bus. Overnight at Hotel 3 Lag in atwin/double room on a bed & breakfast basis.
Day 11. Saint – Laurent – Kouru (visit space center). Today we will an early morning transfer by private bus to Kourou. Overnight at Hotel des Roches in a twin/double room on a bed & breakfast basis.
Day 12. Kourou – Cayenne. Early morning tour to the Guiana Space Station in Kourou, followed by a guided visit of the museum. Enjoy lunch in Kourou. After lunch transfer by private bus from Kourou to Gayenne. Cayenne is nestled on a small hilly peninsula at the mouth of the Cayenne River. Colonised by French traders during the 17th century it remains the ever – vibrant capital of French Guiana today. The city is a melting pot of ethnically diverse cultures shrouded with a distinctive Caribbean charm. Browse colorful markets, admire the colonial architecture of louvered shutters and wrought iron balconies, and savour some of the best dining experiences this side of the Atlantic. The Best Western Hotel Amazonia is situated along the main shopping avenue of downtown Cayenne and within walking distance of many local attractions. Accommodation comprises of 120 rooms and suites arranged 4 floors. The Hotel also offers a bar, restaurant and outdoor swimming pool. Overnight at Hotel Amazonia in twin/double room on a bed & breakfast basis. Lunch included.
Day 13. Cayenne - This morning you will be collected from your hotel for a guided city tour of Cayenne. Highlights during the tour will typically include the Fort Ceperou, place Leopold Heder, hotel of the jesuites, Place de Crenoble, Place des Palmites, the colonial hospital and the Franconie Museum. Opportunity to visit Cayenne’s traditional market to shop for some last minute souvenirs. Overnight at Hotel Amazonia in twin/double room on a bed & breakfast basis. Lunch included.
Day 14. Rochambeau, Airport transfer.
