Itinerary
Day 01. On arrival in Johannesburg you will be met at the airport and taken to a nearby hotel to freshen up and change into your riding gear before we make our way to collect the motorbikes. After completing the rental formalities our journey takes us to our accommodation on the outskirts of Pretoria. This evening after a detailed tour briefing we enjoy a welcome dinner (included). Overnight: Bed & Breakfast + Welcome Dinner
Day 02. Today’s journey takes us through the cultural heartland of Mpumalanga and northwards into the Limpopo province. After an enlightening visit to Bakone Malapa, a living museum we continue through the mountains to Magoebaskloof and our accommodation. Dinner this evening at the resort. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 03. Lush green forests, mountain passes and spectacular scenery await us on today’s journey as we ride along the panorama route. We follow the meanderings of the Olifants and Blyde rivers on our way to Hazyview. The day is filled with many photographic highlights and winding roads past waterfalls, through valleys and across mountains as we make our way closer to the Africa Bush and the Kruger National Park. After a refreshing swim we enjoy dinner at our guesthouse this evening. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 04. This morning we enjoy a short ride exploring the southern panorama route with a visit to Pilgrims Rest, one of the first gold rush towns. We return to the guesthouse around lunchtime and leave our motorbikes behind to go in search of Africa Big 5 in the greater Kruger National Park. We arrive at our lodge in time for the afternoon game drive where our qualified ranger will bring the African bush a little closer and we can spot some of Africa’s wildlife from an open safari vehicle. After an exciting wildlife adventure we return to the lodge for dinner. Overnight: Full board plus safari activities
Day 05. The early morning is probably the best time for game viewing in Africa and so after an early wake up call we embark on another game drive. On our return to the lodge we enjoy a hearty breakfast before bidding farewell and returning to collect our motorbikes. Leaving South Africa behind we travel into the smallest Kingdom in Africa, Swaziland. Our scenic ride through the small kingdom takes us to our accommodation deep in the forests of Malkerns. After a refreshing swim we enjoy dinner. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 06. We continue our journey through Swaziland for a while longer before crossing over back to South Africa. From here we follow in the footsteps of the British army as we head into the Kwazulu Natal Battlefields riding through Paulpietersburg a small, pretty town nestling in the foothills of the Dumbe Mountain - a big, flat-topped, triangular mountain in the middle of flatlands territory. We arrive at our accommodation in Dundee in the late afternoon. Enjoy sundowners in the Lapa before dinner. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 07. Riding through central Kwazulu Natal we make our way to the coast today. We cross the mighty Tugela River on our way to Greytown before riding through the Valley of a 1000 Hills in the afternoon. We spend the night in Umhlanga Rocks and dinner this evening at leisure in one of the restaurants in Umhlanga (own account). Overnight: Bed & Breakfast
Day 08. The Indian Ocean is our constant companion today as we travel along the coast through Durban and on to Margate. After checking in and relaxing at the beach we head for Ramsgate to Pistols Saloon & Wild West Museum for an evening of food and fun (included). Overnight: Bed & Breakfast + Dinner at Pistols
Day 09. After a leisurely breakfast today’s scenic ride takes us through Kokstadt and on into the foothills of the mighty Drakensberg. After checking in we can explore some of the local dirt roads or enjoy some of the activities the resort has on offer. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 10. Today we explore the scenic route that is known as the gateway to the “Roof of Africa” and ride the Sani Pass. The road links the Drakensberg Mountains with the mountains of northern Lesotho and is the only border post between Kwazulu Natal and Lesotho. Once a rough mule trail descending the Eastern Highlands of Basutoland the pass is the highlight of this area today. For those that do not wish to ride themselves we will arrange a 4x4 tour up the pass. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 11. The journey into the central Drakensberg takes us through the Natal Midlands and along the Midlands Meander which is known for its local arts and crafts. The area is reminiscent of the English country side and after an ale or two at one of the quaint country tavern’s in Nottingham Road one can easily mistake ones whereabouts! We ride on into the central Drakensberg region where the beaming faces of small children and waving locals quickly remind us that we are in Africa. Overnight: Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 12. The Drakensberg Mountains again form the back drop to our journey north today as we travel across the Olifants Hoek Pass and through the Golden Gate National Park. In the afternoon we check into our accommodation in the little town of Clarens and have the opportunity to do a beer tasting before enjoying dinner at one of the restaurants at leisure (own account). Overnight: Bed & Breakfast
Day 13. Today we leave the mountains behind and travel back to the province of Guateng. Our journey takes us past the Vaal Dam, South Africa’s largest dam which has coastline in 3 provinces. From here we continue north to Johannesburg where we return the motorbikes in the late afternoon before checking in at our hotel near the airport. We enjoy a farewell dinner together and look back on our incredible adventure. Overnight: Bed & Breakfast + Farewell Dinner
Day 14. Transfer to the airport in time for your flight home.
