The city of Tulcea, laid out on seven hills like Rome, has been an important harbor since ancient times. Some of the highlights include St. Nicholas' Church (1865), the Azzizie Mosque (1924), the Danube Delta History Museum, the Art Museum, and the History and Archeology Museum. The local Lipovani Russian and Turkish minorities lend the city a multi-ethnic flavor. Within the county of Tulcea you will find the famous vineyard of Niculitel, the oldest geological mountain structure in Europe, the Macin mountains (today only small hills), monasteries and ancient Christian artifacts from the first century A.C. The city of Tulcea is the point where the Danube begins to build the Delta. Tulcea is also the main city in the area, with important industrial facilities and an ongoing growth of the population at a very rapid rhythm.

‘Danube Delta’ Tulcea airport is situated at S-E of Romania, a Gate of Entry in Danube Delta, the most spectaculars zone of Europe hosting an amazing range of habitats and life forms, in a relatively small area, is a real museum of biodiversity, a natural genetic bank with incalculable value for worldwide natural heritage serving a large geographic area and a big number of tourists and businessmen. The airport is situated at 15 km from Tulcea.
