UK holiday ideas

Taking a break from everyday life can be a great way to build family relationships and have fun as a family. Staying at home and relaxing in the garden with a garden table and chairs can be an enjoyable way to spend the weekend, however taking a break away somewhere can be even more enjoyable.

Holiday types

There are many different types of holidays that families can take in the UK. Camping is a great opportunity for fun, and can also be very reasonable in price. Campers can choose to go back to basics, with a simple tent, or they could choose to take a caravan, or they could even rent a caravan when they arrive at their destination. More creative holiday parks offer families the chance to hire a yurt, a chalet or even a tree house!

Families could also choose to go on an activity holiday in the UK. There are many centres offering plenty of activities to keep families, couples and individuals busy. They have great accommodation, dining and entertainment facilities. Two popular activity holiday centres are Centerparcs and Butlins.

Another popular holiday type is a traditional beach holiday. The British coast has plenty of scenic seaside towns that are a great destination for building sandcastles, playing games and eating fish and chips. Beach holidays have been a popular choice in the UK for centuries.

Families could choose to take a countryside holiday. They could stay in a holiday home or cottage, apartment, bed and breakfast or hotel, and take part in plenty of fun activities, such as visiting zoos, country parks, farms, and theme parks.

Parents looking for some peace and quiet could choose to send their children to a summer camp, for example one that is run by PGL. Children get the chance to meet other children and take part in plenty of fun activities. Parents who want to get involved could always choose to join in, as there are also some activity camps for families.

Popular destinations in the UK

Those who want a traditional beach holiday are unlikely to find a better destination than the Isle of Wight. It has pretty beaches, traditional towns, and plenty of holiday atmosphere.

Another UK destination that offers sandy beaches and plenty of family activities is the south-west coast. Devon, Cornwall and Dorset all offer plenty of seaside charm, a great choice of lovely accommodations, and some excellent tourist attractions such as Monkey World.

A fantastic scenic destination is The Lake District, which offers some of the most scenic landscape walks in the country. It also offers plenty of idyllic villages, and a real sense of getting away from it all.

Similarly, the Yorkshire Dales is a lovely countryside destination, with plenty of interesting historic castles and other sights, and also plenty of activities, such as fishing villages.

Another scenic country destination in the UK is Wales, with plenty of quaint villages, pretty countryside and homely accommodations. Renting a cottage in Wales can be a perfect way to relax and unwind during the summer.
