Turkey; Where Europe meets Asia


Turkey is a country with a long and wonderful history and its location in Asia provided the perfect gateway into Europe. The country, under Ottoman rule was once one of the most powerful nations in the world. There are so many historical and natural sites to visit, making Turkey a spectacular holiday destination.

If you are interested in history and ancient architecture then the Library of Celsus is a great place to start. Built during the Roman Empire era, the library stored over 12,000 scrolls. The theatre of Aspendos is another famous site with ancient architecture. It was built during the time when the Roman Empire ruled the area. It remains one of the most well preserved ancient theatres and seats up to 20,000 people. Mount Nemrut is another interesting site to visit. Built at the top of the mount is the tomb of a long dead Turkish King. The king had stone statues placed around the tomb. Most of the head have fallen off the statues but they are still visible.

For the vacationer that enjoys being around the water, Turkey has several great spots to visit. The Patara Beach is a wonderful semi-secluded beach on the Mediterranean. The sandy beaches form into dunes that block out most of the buildings. This is a perfect spot to throw a beach towel down and spend the day relaxing in the sun. The seaside port of Bodrum is a popular vacation area. The area has nice beaches where you can spend the day relaxing. There are many opportunities to enjoy the water, like spending the day on a sailboat. Bodrum has many wonderful little shops to venture through and many exquisite restaurants for your palates enjoyment. Oludeniz is a cute little town on the edge of a blue lagoon. The unique colour of the water makes this place a popular spot for turkey holidays spot and one of the most photographed places around. Oludeniz is a great place to parasail because of the incredible scenery. Whether you enjoy strolling through ancient ruins, lounging on sandy beaches, or quaint little towns, Turkey has it for you.
