Top Attractions In Chicago

Chicago is one of America’s much loved cities, and the urban location offers a lot for visitors to explore. With 45 million tourists exploring the ‘Windy City’ every year, the city holds some of the USA’s most iconic landmarks. And with activities for couples, friends and family groups, there are attractions for all tastes and ages.

Baseball is a hugely popular sport in America and, located on the north side of Chicago, is Wrigley Field; the home of the Major League Baseball’s Cubs. Built in 1914, the stadium still has its original 1937 scoreboard and is a major attraction for sports fans.

If you’re looking for shopping attractions then there’s nothing better than the Magnificent Mile. This stretch of Michigan Avenue is famed across the world for its shopping, and more than a dozen blocks of shops, hotels, shopping malls and 124 restaurants offer the ideal opportunity to indulge in retail therapy. For a more family friendly shopping location Navy Pier is ideal. Here you’ll find an IMAX theatre, children’s museum, carnival rides and a range of shops and restaurants.

If you’re making use of a cheap Chicago hotel in the warmer months of the year you might like to explore the cities outside activities. In downtown Chicago you’ll find Millennium Park; a 24.5-acre site, which features works by famed artists. The twisted metal pavilion by Frank Gehry and a 50-foot video water fountain project by Jaume Plensa can be found here and with hundreds of free events throughout the year it’s a great urban space to explore. Lincoln Park Zoo, which is located around five miles outside of the city, is also a great day out especially if you’re travelling with children, and you’ll find favourites such as polar bears, giraffes and grey seals living here.

For an unrivalled view of the city Willis Tower should be your destination. The Skydeck, which is located on the 103rd floor, offers stunning views across Chicago’s skyline and, with glass boxes extending out from the platform, it’ll feel like you’re floating at the top of the Western Hemisphere’s tallest building. Another great way to explore the city is by touring with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. This group offers sightseeing tours by boats, buses and foot, allowing you to explore and celebrate the cities beautiful architecture from private residences to towering skyscrapers.

Chicago also has a number of great museums and you’ll find that the Field Museum is especially interesting. Found within Grant Park this natural history and anthropological exhibit offers the chance to see T-Rex fossils and an Egyptian mummy. It’s ideal for children with its interactive displays and makes for a great day out. Elsewhere, the Art Institute of Chicago has an enormous range of art and will be loved by painting enthusiasts.

Travel to Chicago is ideally done throughout the warmer seasons of the year, as the winter can be bitterly cold. But, even at it’s most icy; there are iconic attractions than can be enjoyed all year round for a stunning and memorable trip away.
