Enchantment and Intrigue on a Russian Holiday

As one of the largest countries on earth, Russia is certainly one of the most diverse. With European cultures in St Petersburg, to Middle Eastern cultures bordering countries such as Georgia and Azerbaijan. Then there are the Far Eastern cultures, with bordering nations such as Mongolia and China. Russia holidays are undoubtedly an intriguing affair and the country is a fascinating one to explore.

With a rich and somewhat stormy, violent history stretching back for centuries, the country is a fascinating one to explore. Whether you want to admire the superb art collections of the Hermitage, visit St Catherine’s Palace or call at the Church on Spilled Blood in St Petersburg. You could take a trip to Moscow, and pay the Red Square a call whilst you’re there, get a photograph in front of the impressive St Basil’s Cathedral. No fear if you’re a shopaholic, Moscow has plenty to offer in that department too and you could even visit an underground Soviet-era nuclear bunker if you’re feeling adventurous!

Moscow, the biggest city of Europe has remained the traditional capital of Russia since the foundation of the city in 1200s. To begin with you could visit the famous Red Square—the citadel and powerhouse of Communism and Soviet Block. Russia has indeed moved a long way ahead of the Soviet Era of 80s and Moscow with all of its history, vibrancy, diversity and fabulous hotels makes you feel very welcome. Another unmissable visit is to the Kremlin, possibly the most well known structure of Russia which was originally constructed as a defense fort, and has now been transformed to a history museum. By using the subway system in Russia, you are sure to get a feel of ‘today’s’ Moscow, the stations are constructed on the lines of Russian palaces with their fast systems not only being super efficient, but also a visual retreat. Yet another must is the famous Tretyakov Picture gallery, and the World War II museum. The list really is endless and historians will be in their element, it is so interesting to experience these wonderful places.

Moscow and St Petersburg are without doubt some of the world’s most wonderful and beautiful destinations to take a holiday to. Both boasting lengthy, tumultuous histories with their own distinct style nowadays. It’s always worth while to ensure you have the best place to stay, giving you the best value for your available budget. Maybe you fancy a luxurious treat at the 5 star Ritz-Carlton lying at the edge of the Red Square in Moscow, site of countless coronations, conflicts and celebrations. Or on the other end of the spectrum a low cost, reputable hostel still in the centre of all the attractions and with plenty going on around you, there is an option to suit every need in terms of accommodation in Russia.

Visiting Russia is definitely a way to expose yourself to a culture that is massively different to what you may be used to, but it has to be said that Russia has fantastic facilities for tourism, and will give you an unforgettable experience and brilliant holiday!
