Bulgaria is a great destination for skiers for several reasons, not least because of the money that can be saved on a skiing holiday. While compared with traditional ski areas, such as the Alps or the Pyrenees, the size and facilities available from Bulgarian resorts often have some catching up to do, however, it is still the perfect place to go for those looking to find
cheap ski packages.
Why is Bulgaria regarded as a cheaper holiday destination?
In Bulgaria it’s not only on the skiing itself that massive savings can be made, but on everything else that money needs to be spent on while on holiday. This includes things such as accommodation, food and clothes. Everything from watches to designer shoes can be found at bargain prices, making the country one of the most sought after bargain holiday destinations on the planet.
What to do when the slopes close
When the slopes are closed, there is still a lot to do in Bulgaria, inside and outside the hotels. Interesting goods are on sale everywhere at bargain prices and when the shopping is done, Bulgaria is awash with historical, cultural and scenic places to visit. For those that enjoy a good nightlife, most Bulgarian resorts will accommodate. Not only does the nightlife have a fantastic atmosphere, but the drinks also tend to be very cheap and it is usually possible to find offers such as two drinks for the price of one or happy hours that seem to last all night.
The most popular slopes in Bulgaria
Pamporovo –picturesque pine forests surround this purpose-built ski centre. It claims to be the sunniest ski resort in the whole of Europe with 270 days of sun reported annually. Pamporovo is one of the cheapest resorts you will find and is perfect for skiers of an intermediate level.
Bansko – recent investment has seen Bansko transformed from a small slope attached to a little medieval town to a year-round internationally recognised ski resort. The resort boasts many features including, high-speed detachable doppelmayr quads, night skiing, picturesque backdrops and a surrounding area rich in historical and cultural attractions.
Vitosha – situated just 10km away from the capital city of Sofia, the slopes at Vitosha provide world-class amenities for skiers and other snow sport enthusiasts.
